“---and what MAKES you think that i’ll trust you?”
" ssh, you're okay "
@ferrousveined ⍿ ☾◇ short prompt
The world Rey had found herself in was completely dark. The darkness b u r n e d on skin and was squinching her eyes, trying to get them to focus on anything that might be out there. ❝ Hello ? HELLO ?❞ No matter how far she walked or ran there was no escaping the darkness . Rey felt as if the air she was breathing in the dark world was suffocating her.
Rey had been RESTLESS from the moment she fell asleep. She moved around on the small mattress, started sweating and at one point even started saying things in her sleep. It didn’t take long before her talking evolved to screaming.Maya started to rock Rey’s body and not too long after, her eyes jumped open and she was gasping for air as she woke from the horrid nightmare. Rey’s difficulty to breathe went on as Maya calmed her down. ❛ You’re okay, ❜ Rey heard and started to repeat it in her own head, convincing herself she was, indeed, okay.
i know i’ve got replies to work on but @ferrousveined is absolutely killing me with modern day Maya & Rey headcanons. they’re so so wonderfully painful though

From the moment she’d woken up that morning until the minute she stepped into her car at the end of her shift at the garage, Rey had known what day it was. RACE DAY. Just the thought of race day alone made her seem carefree, though everyone knew that even the best could be beaten. Rey wasn’t waiting for that moment to happen, she just knew that it was a fact. It was a chance she had to take into account. Rey had been racing ever since she was tall enough to reach the pedals; she needed the money and she loved to drive ( it calmed her down ) take those two and throw them into a mix. The result? Racing for money. There was no other way; she didn’t have any work experience and none of the jobs that didn’t require work experience appealed to her. Except for one although the job had been offered by a weird looking guy; Karl Puttun. Let’s put it this way, if Rey had known then what she knew now, she most likely wouldn’t have taken the job. But Karl ran a busy garage and what little money she did earn, was still money. Aside from those reasons; she did what she loved the most, work on cars. It was already crowded when Rey arrived, and spotted someone she considered to be a dear friend, Maya, as soon as she stepped out of her Dodge Challenger SRT8. When Rey made eye contact with Maya, she flashed a smile and held up her hand in a special manner; it was their own little code for ‘I still need to hand in my cash in order to actually be able to participate’. As she headed to the two guys who were in charge of all the money, she could feel everyone’s eyes on her. Over the many years of racing, she had gotten used to the lingering looks. Sadly, there weren’t a lot of female racers out there. At least, Rey could count those she knew on one hand. ❝ 5K BUY IN , right Jesse ? ❞
Jesse was the kind of guy who was happy an all the time kind of happy. He replied to Rey with a smile and included a few nods here and there. ❝ You know the drill, Rey , ❞ The kid smiled some more and accepted Rey’s money as the professional that he was. ❝ YOU KNOW... ❞ Jesse leaned forward, making sure only Rey would hear what he had to say to her. ❝ my money’s on you, girl . ❞ An unexpected smile appeared on Rey’s face, and mouthed a quick ‘thank you!’ before turning around and joining Maya and the others.
