It has been raining the whole day. The heavy rains started last night. It was I think at 8 or 10 PM when the water came inside the house. We already brought our things up at the 2nd floor. At 2:30 AM, my mommy (our guardian) woke up to survey the 1st floor and there we found a few of our things (slippers, plastic chairs, umbrella) floating on the water. We just let them float because we cant really do anything about them anyway. But we did go out of the house to bring the washing machine to a higher place. Yeah I did wade in the flood water. So much for my Monday morning. Mommy remained awake on the bed while I went back to sleep as if it was easy. It was terribly scary going back to sleep because of the noise of the heavy rains. I prayed the Holy Rosary before I closed my eyes for sleep.
So for the whole day we remained inside the house. Except for mommy, papa, and Kiko who goes out occasionally to buy food and other necessities. Tikboy is still a bit sick. Mama and I only stayed inside, rearranging our stuff at home so everybody can get enough space and comfort.
When I wasn’t helping out, I read something or I draw something. I considered studying Biostatistics for school but nah.
I began reading this book by George RR Martin (GRRM) called the “Fevre Dream”. It’s a gothic horror book and this was a surprise gift given to me by Kuya Ayie, an acquaintance. I was enjoying the book however I couldn’t really take in the horror feel of the story. I was feeling more terribly afraid of the weather than the story. The sky is so dark outside and the noise of the heavy rainfall seemed ominous. And the rain wasn’t stopping at all. It was really scary. And the flood downstairs is getting higher as well and I’m afraid for us to get diseases because of the flood water.
Anyway, for the whole morning and early afternoon I read the book and then I just slept thereafter.
Day 2 Tuesday 8/20/13
The rain was still pouring heavily. It seemed like it’s not planning on going away. The night was still scary because of the danger that the tropical storm might bring us but it wasn’t as scary as the first. Still, the fear’s still there. There’s still no electricity so Mommy and Mama went to Ate Ley’s house, where there’s electricity, to charge our phones and laptops. I considered going too and staying there but I thought I’ll be needed here so I decided to stay and just wait for them. Going to work is already out of the question because of the current situation.
It was really boring so I used the time to practice my drawing and sketching. I tried to make anime characters, portraits, semi-realistic faces, patterns, etc. In the end I only felt a bit sad as I looked upon my outputs. I was much better with pencils before when I was in highschool. But that’s okay anyway, I can practice more when I have time again.
I went back to reading Fevre Dream eventually and I am slowly enjoying it more. I know Captain Marsh’s description is totally different from that of GRRM’s features but I couldn’t help but imagine Captain Marsh to look like GRRM LOL!
I noticed, however, that I’m still not attached, even slightly, to any of the characters in the book, which is a usual thing that happens to me whenever I read one. Iike the mysterious York but not that much. I think maybe it’s because I am growing up LOL! But I’m only done with 1/4 of the book, so… well… many things can still happen. It was set at the time when there was still slavery in America and it makes me remember reading Gone with the Wind.
Well anyway, at least I have a book to kill the time. Mama and Mommy went back with food and other stuff. Also medications were brought in as well to protect us from diseases. For leptospirosis, the prophylaxis is 100 mg 2 cap single dose within 24 to 72 hours for those who waded in the flood, and I made everyone drink the drugs.
The flood is still high so there’s nothing left to do but try to keep everyone safe, and pray.
Day 3 Wednesday 8/21/13
The rain wasn’t that hard that night. I don’t think it rained hard at all. Thank You God. There’s still water though but it’s going down each second. I had to accompany mama to her office because she has to finish and submit a report and there will be no one there in her office so she has to have someone with her. Anyway, I need internet connection to hear news and connect to some people as well so I was glad to accompany her.
It stopped raining the whole afternoon and when we returned from mama’s office there was no water already on the street. Thank You God again. There will be so much cleaning to do tomorrow. Papa’s feeling bad but we’re all hoping that he’ll get better tomorrow. A distant nephew is celebrating his birthday so there was so much noise a while ago. They were singing and celebrating.
I realized, I have eaten so much these past 3 days!!! T.T I mean, I thank the Lord for giving us enough food to eat but this time, while we’re all worrying about the weather, eating less and watching my diet seemed to have gone off somewhere. Then again, I thank the Lord for keeping us all safe, giving us clean water and food and making us still feel comfort during the terrible time.
The other families weren’t as lucky as us. There were deaths and injuries and many houses were damaged. Right now, all I could give them is my prayer. But maybe tomorrow or on the next, I’ll be able to give help with as much as my resources would allow me to..
