The Basics

“Riz. How capable do you think Leona. We can pu’ her to work on some of this?”

Had it already come to this? She’s not ready! He wanted to scream... but really, who’s fault was it she wasn’t ready? Why wasn’t she ready? Kurel was going to find her work... bright young operatives were a boon to any organization. Useful... disposable...

“Maybe on basics... y’said he has a daughter that’s too young t’drink, she might be a good place t’make friends. More’en that though... round anyone attuned t’look for eavesdroppin she’s a sittin duck still.”

“Maybe we star’ there. See how well she can play nice, make friends...”

Make friends. Meaning she would have to turn on said friend someday. Leona wasn’t even yet aware... And who’s fault is that?

Kurel was expecting results. He suspected Hidden was too. He had a choice, leave her unprepared and get her killed or get serious in preparing her for what she was signing up for. Time to pick up the pace then...

The facade is only as strong as it’s weakest moment. - Learn it. Memorize it. Recognize all our lives depend on it, but don’t forget what is under it.

There is a newish woman in the purveyor’s office. One Feylan Silverlight. She has been his official secretary for a short time, but the paper work states she came to Sunspire just after winter veil. She is no slave. She is no captive. Merely a gentle, if not a bit sickly, woman that keeps to herself. She is a healer by trade, and has been the purveyor’s personal physician, as well. It is imperative the whole of Sunspire agrees with this story.

Your task? Talk to everyone. Use what resources you need; make up tales and let them spread. Ask leading questions. Perhaps she is considering branching out to her own clinic, maybe even a -free- clinic, but the wolves’ control of the hospital beds makes her anxious. Get the port kids joking about how frail she is. Make her seem personable, vaguely memorable without it seeming obvious you are plugging her story.

Anyone that seems stalwart against your claims, convince otherwise. Be sweet. Be ferocious. Be helpful. Plenty a merchant will agree to whatever story for a trade or days labor. Use any and all skills you have to make them see ‘reason’ without getting thrown out of Sunspire or harming yourself. Do not use money. Otherwise, there is no such thing as ‘cheating’ in this. Just get it done. No matter the inquisition or spook that comes looking for discrepancies, I want them to find nothing. Let me know if you need help only if its absolutely necessary. Getting the job done correctly is more important than your pride. You have till the end of the week.

This may even help you find the operative you’re seeking.

Best to destroy this letter when you’re done, as it could get us both hanged.

He included a photo of the woman in question, and frowned at the letter. He was still coddling her, even in this. Riz gave her answers to half the questions she would jump upon him if he gave her the chance. She’ll never learn if you do all the learning for her... I know I know... but it was at least a step in the right direction.
