So, ever since the Evercold announcement, I've been leveling all my combat classes to level 100, having only previously done the tanks and SCH/SMN. So far I've gotten MNK, RPR and SAM to level 100 and I'm currently working on BRD, which is level 93 at the moment. I just briefly want to talk about how I am feeling about every job I've leveled in that period (so, not counting the tanks and SCH/SMN) and put them into a little tier list. This is absolutely completely subjective, but I just think it is fun. Also, in terms of the order of how I'm leveling them: RNG decided. That's why there will be some funky patterns on what jobs get done in what order. I will also say that I did pick MNK, RPR and SAM for the order to get a few of the melees done and have a more balanced RNG deciding how we move through the jobs. Anyway, let's start with the first of the 3: MNK!
Monk
So MNK is a job I've enjoyed and played ever since SB. While this is on a lot of fundamental degrees still the same MNK I love, it has also changed a lot from how fast it got with Greased Lightning stacks or how the different elemental tackles would change how you interact with stuff. This was a simple leveling from 90 to 100 task and wasn't all that interesting. Didn't help that MNK is basically a rotationally complete job at 50 at this point, though definitely at 60 and the level 90 to 100 additions aren't anything too interesting. Still, I have a good time with MNK, so a solid B tier. Solid leveling experience, fun to play. Next up, RPR!
Reaper
RPR is a job I basically didn't touch ever since it came out. I believe I got it to level 72 before I started leveling it to 100, so a good amount longer than MNK. That said… yeah, this was pretty fun. From 70 - 80, it was just alright. Regress is funny, but not super impactful. Gluttony felt better, but didn't change the job too much. And then we get Enshroud and suddenly the job makes sense. Afterwards, the good stuff just keeps piling up and it never stops. This is genuinely a really fun job with a good leveling experience. The only issue is that moment until level 80 and even then, I still think it is better than a lot of jobs that came out earlier in those levels as well. Honestly, a good A tier for both the fun of leveling and the fun of playing the job. Only issue is that bit before Enshroud and even then, that's a minor bump. Lastly, SAM!
Samurai
Let's get this out of the way first, since it has no influence on my rating: the 60 - 70 SAM job quests suck. The WoL becoming a cop is stupid, that revolutionary was stupid because writers can't write revolutionaries for shit since they would otherwise get too many "wait, he has a point tho" and it is a shame since the 50 - 60 SAM job quests were excellent.
Anyway, on to the actual leveling. I went from 60 - 100 and I was profoundly bored… until level 70 or so. 62 was already better because of the increased Kenki gain on combos, but 70 is when my enjoyment started increasing. Then around 80 I really started enjoying myself. Then at 86 my heart was shattered into tiny pieces because my lovely cone AoE was changed to a player based circle AoE. I'm so done with played based circle AoEs, they are so boring (tank main btw, give us the Overpower cone back). Regardless, then at 90, I was genuinely feeling like this was one of the most fun jobs in the game. All that to say… A tier. I can't put it into S tier, because I do remember that feeling of "UGGHHHHHHHHH" every time I went into a roulette during that 60 - 70 period. While it became better at 70 onward, it only really became good at 80. For me, that's too late for me to enjoy myself. However, that enjoyment was huge, so I am still happy to have done it. So yeah, A tier.
The actual tier list
And that's the post! Just a very brief discussion (and tier list) about jobs I'm leveling. Next time will be BRD, which should be somewhere later this week. For the order of jobs left: BRD, WHM, DNC, SGE, MCH, BLM, VPR, RDM, NIN, AST, DRG and lastly PCT. This will also be the order of posts coming out and not at a set schedule, since some of these jobs are low… (DNC is at 60). Thank you for reading!
