Cloud's Story
Hot Pink Persian Rose (#ff65d8 to #ff1997)
an in-universe photo from the real-world fic i’m writing. valentine’s day, 1996, at the civic opera house. this is the only photo that aerith has to show people after sephiroth goes missing.
here’s what i’ve been cooking the past few weeks, a PMV for @antisphinx and i’s final fantasy vii AU that we’re in the process of writing, though i took a decent sized break to work on this. i’m quite pleased with how much i think i was able to communicate without spoiling any of the biggest plot points. maybe my favorite element of this project is all the B roll i collected to synthesize with my art, which is almost entirely home video or documentaries produced in the 1990s (or 70s/80s for the “backstory” segments). i thought i was going to have to post this in two parts because of an arbitrary 3 min video limit but i guess not!! yay! with this done i’m looking forward to getting back to writing + my usual illustration cycle. HUGE thanks for watching if you do end up sitting through the whole thing, as this was a big personal achievement for a very personal project and personally meaningful piece of music. i hope it’s enjoyable even without knowledge of our plans or FFVII as a game. i also hope you can all forgive me for unleashing buzzcut sephiroth into the world but it had to be done. the audio sample i spliced into the beginning btw is a clip of the old CTA announcement recordings, isn’t that cuuuuute?
an aerith for every season
In the mid-90's, Chicago's heart beats to the rhythm of ordered chaos. A bar called Seventh Heaven sits at its center. Sephiroth has secrets—that much became obvious within a few months of her and Aerith's relationship. Still, Aerith is reluctant to pry when, for the first time in her life, she feels truly seen. But when a shocking news story brings a treacherous piece of Sephiroth's past to light, shortly after their mysterious friend, Vincent, drops a bombshell of his own—Sephiroth is nowhere to be found. Left with a map of the States and a confusing mass of articles, Aerith and her friends are left with no other choice but to track Sephiroth down for answers. Their search takes them from Chicago to the farthest corners of the country, through places familiar, and unknown. As Aerith unravels the red threads of conspiracy surrounding Sephiroth's life, how far is she willing to go to recover the woman she loves? At what point does the burden of the past corrode the present beyond repair? This story takes a winding road through a budding relationship, mental health crises, a cross-country roadtrip, a high-stakes trial, and the salvific power of being loved and understood when true acceptance feels like a distant fantasy.
1997: BETWEEN TWO POINTS.
It hurts to set you free, but you'll never follow me The end of laughter and soft lies The end of nights we tried to die This is the end
