Oh here's some FF20 things: Absurd fucking ridiculous FF Throne on rails with goddamn guitar necks sticking out of it and light beams on the back made Dave look royally insane (A mad king, if you will?). So how is it that some of us predicted that? Entire stage rearranged for the purposes of Dave being able to see Taylor from over his shoulder, even with the big back of the throne. Nate and Chris bunched on one side, Taylor sideways behind Pat. Felt like Pat had way more room. Don't tell me I didn't get Pat's attention from a crowd of 40,000 because I did it when everyone was looking at Dave. Strategy, hello. Taylor got to do the Freddie Mercury thing where he makes some sounds and the crowd repeats that sound. I'm guessing that was another check off his bucket list. I was very happy for him. I have the theory that you can always tell if Dave is really into a show, based on how much or how little he talks to the crowd. The fact that he paused in the middle of nearly every song to say "Lemme tell you guys something..." was a great indication of how much he loved this show. And when he got all teary-eyed at times. He took a moment to honor Virginia Grohl and I just love when he does that. She came out onstage and held his hand as he told stories of her greatness. It made me feel like they were going to play Arlandria but they didn't. It would have been fitting. Maybe that was part of the set that got skipped when Dave played a song without looking at "the script," which turned out to be Generator. (idk I still feel like Generator without the talk box lacks a certain... mouthiness.) The setlist flowed incredibly well. Having seen some sets before that lacked momentum, it highlighted how well the Foos' set was planned. It also helps that when Dave talks to the crowd, it's normally in the middle of a song and not in between songs. Keeps it flowing nicely. When Dave sings with his eyes closed, it means a lot. That's when you know the words are especially personal to him. I always pay attention to that sort of thing, and there was a particularly emotional Big Me where it felt like Dave sang the whole thing with his eyes closed. He also did that during quite a few songs. More than he does at any "ordinary" show. I finally got to hear Outside live... and outside. The song seems bigger than can be contained in a room. It felt amazing to feel outside air blowing on me while singing along to that. ARE YOU GUYS AWARE OF CONGREGATION LIVE?!?! Jesus, the studio version pales in comparison. It's a crowd thing, like PJ's DTE. "Here's my church, I sing in the choir." The fans really make that song explode. Some "old school" songs, starting with Breakout (Big Me was played prior to Breakout but whatever). You know the thing Dave does during Breakout? Because if you don't, there's no way I know how to describe it, because I don't even know what he said this time. Alone + Easy Target? What? Fucking excuse me? My only prediction for the night was For All The Cows. I had a feeling about it. And what did they do, they fucking played For All The Cows. This Is A Call?! Goddamn. Dave's fucking slideshow presentation of his own injury, what the fuck. Made us watch a clip of him falling over, and over, and over, while he narrated. You know, that felt weird, even for Dave. I expected them to make a huge deal about it, but they made the hugest deal. Always exceeding expectations, this band. Under Pressure was beautiful as always. I thought they were going to go into some more covers, but Dave took a quick poll with the crowd and Foo Fighters songs won over. I wouldn't have minded Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love, myself, but that's alright. Weird how every song is now a metaphor for Dave's injury, huh? Alright.
