He could be dishonest with her all he wanted, but she was always going to be honest with him. Wanda had no clue that SHIELD was going to imprison him in this manner, a mutant inhibitor collar around his neck to keep him in check, at least before shipping him off to the Raft. Wanda wasn't fond of this kind of treatment to Daken, no matter what sort of crime he had committed.

It was why Wanda had come to see Daken, she needed to see how he was being treated while in SHIELD custody. It angered Wanda to see the inhibitor collar around his neck to suppress his mutation. She didn't care if he was a "dangerous mutant" he was a person. She was definitely going to be having a discussion with Nick Fury later on, but for now, her attention was back on Daken. "I promise you, I'll make sure they wouldn't treat you that way, or ever make you feel that way again."

Johnny gritted his teeth and inhaled sharply as Daken applied antiseptic to the gash that ran down the side of his thigh.

"You should see the other guy..."

The other guy in question was one of Wilson Fisk's goons, and of course he was fine. Johnny had been helping Peter out on a mission and, well — things never went to plan when it was just the two of them.

But that was the trouble with a powerset as destructive as Johnny's. He could fight without his flame, sure. Get a few good licks in. But he was one of the good guys, and his strongest power was the bluff. And when that bluff was called? More often than not he was completely boned. Becuase he couldn't burn anyone. He wouldn't. Which is why he ended up getting booted out the window of Fisk's swanky penthouse — mostly unscathed — but the gash down the side of his of his leg throbbed, and would probably need a few stitches — or ten.

And hey, he knew Daken was staying in the area at the moment — a perfect opportunity for an unannounced drop-in, right? Johnny was kidding himself, but he'd rather avoid the lecture waiting for him at the Baxter Building. And he did want to see Daken. He always wanted to see Daken.

"... The other guy's... fine." He admitted finally. "I got a few good hits in, though. But I'm the one that ended up flying out a penthouse window. So take that as you will, I guess."

Johnny looked down at his feet. He knew Daken was trying to do better, trying to be more open about things with him. Johnny needed to be able to give the same in return, even if that meant upsetting him.

"I think you know you've hurt me before, but we don't need to talk about it." He didn't want to talk about it. The words still stung like a fresh cut, still echoed through his mind on particularly bad nights.

'Real people stay dead when they die, Johnny. You standing here is simply... an insult'.

He couldn't help but wonder if Daken truly felt that way about him. Then again, would he be here if he did?

Just-- try not to think about it.

He looked up again, a small, hopeful smile crossing his features as he locked eyes with Daken. "All we can do is try and do better next time. And I know you have the ability to do better — I believe in you."

It's   fucked   up   that   a   little   part   of   her   purred   at   the   display,   an   ecosystem's   apex   predator   reveling   in   the   twitches   choked   gurgles   before   the   claws   withdrew.   But   a   larger,   more   human   part   of   her   that   was   irritated   —   not   at   the   death   of   another   being,   but   that   she   had   been   caught   in   the   crossfire   of   the   bloodspray.
