"Quit being such a wuss," Mandi said, narrowing her eyes. "Once we get there then we'll get back home, alright? I doubt any wild animal would be nuts to be awake in the middle of the night."
"But. . ." Donnie sniffed, wiping her nose. "It's too dangerous to be out here!"
"Not if you're tough enough to handle it." Mandi propped her hands on her hands.
Hadley shook her head, rubbing her forehead.
They were in an expedition to check out the potential treasure hidden in the forest. No matter how much she tried to reason with the leader, she seemed hell-bent on going. She wanted to have a nice Friday night: not be here in the woods, where an animal might mistake them for food."
"What if a bear finds us then? Or a lion? Then we'll be attacked then crushed then eaten as food! Or what if bugs started crawling after us? Then they'd climb on us, bringing so many of their friends along, then they'd use us as. . . No, I do not want to be lunch just so you can find some damn coins! Let's go back before it's too late!"
Mandi threw her hands up in the air. She pouted, making her eyes look bigger.
"Come on, Donnie. I don't wanna miss what's out there! So, don't be a wimp and follow my lead!"
"What a jack-ass," Hadley murmured, rolling her eyes.
"According to the G.P.S, the treasure is that way," Mandi explained, pointing at the right. "It's not too far, so we can get there fast.”
"You better hope you're right." Hadley folded her arms over her chest.
Maybe if Mandi did this on her own than insisted them to join her, they wouldn't be in this stupid predicament. She owed them for wasting their free hours.
The leaves rustle in the distance as the owls hooted high in the trees. The sky seemed darker in here than in the city.
Hadley wanted to be alert or else she might get caught off-guard.
Once they reached the grove of the trees, Mandi stopped in her tracks. Between the two rocks, an old crest lies on the ground, seemingly untouched.
There was something not right about this. . .
"Mandi," Donnie murmured, taking a step back.
"Shh, we're so close." Mandi placed her hands down on the crest.
Hadley's eyes found a trail of smoke leading towards. . . Mandi. Her jaw dropped.
Behind their leader, a creature floated while staring at them. It had a grey-purple body with sharp nails sticking out it's chest, veins all over it's body. And it's head was upside down with the eye on the bottom and a mouth above. It lifted it's hand, which had claws as sharp as a knife.
What the hell was that thing?
Donnie flailed her arms. "Mandi!"
"What?!" Mandi turned around, pulling a face.
But as she glanced up, she let out a hoarse shout, dropping her phone. The creature made a sound, which slightly resembled an eerie laugh, moving towards her. It took over her body, letting her fall to the ground. Black veins appeared at the corners of her eyes. Then she stretched her arm, cracking a bone.
Donnie covered her mouth, her eyes widening. Her face paled.
Hadley's breath hitched in her throat. Her heart rate spiked so hard, she felt her eardrums pounding. Nausea clawed it's way out of her throat and she pushed it out on impulse.
Fuck. They were screwed.
Wherever the hell that thing came from, she didn't wanna go there. Whatever it did to their leader, she didn't want it to happen to her.
"Run for it!" Donnie shrieked, getting away from the sight.
When Hadley and Donnie started running, the creature pushed out some deformed sound. It turned Mandi's head around, nearly breaking her neck.
With her adrenaline wild, she ignored the fear suffocating her lungs. No, she can't give out, that was what the freak wanted.
The creature opens it's mouth, letting out some smoke to block the path ahead. Hadley tumbled over it, making her way up to the hill. She waited for her other friend, putting her hand out for her. Connie tried to stretch hers out, but something pulled her down.
Donnie screamed as the creature dragged her down with it.
Fucking hell, it took Donnie.
Having no other choice, Hadley continued to escape. She ran and ran as fast as she could.
After reaching towards the spot, where they parked their car, she dropped to the ground. She panted, trying to unlock the door. She picked up her phone, dialing the emergency number. Maybe they could help her out with this.
"What the fuck?" Hadley stared at the controls, horrified by what she witnessed.
Definitely something that she can't keep out of her mind. She should have a mental note on to never return to this place.
