like look at Vivi FFIX. he has the same backstory as Prompto FFXV. confronted with the horrific fact that they were created to be nothing but a puppeteered weapon of destruction, but still finding the courage to follow their hearts and live their own lives despite that.

ffix is the coziest warmest storybook-esque FF by far. and yet that doesnt diminish the emotional impact vivi has on us at all. if anything the juxtaposition of the silly funny world with random furry creatures and the horror of a child soldier that has to face the heartbreaking truth makes it all the more hard-hitting.

im not saying "realistic" FF doesnt have its own benefits. but its absolutely not necessary for heartwrenching moments, as proven time and time again by older FF games. Vivi is a huge fan favourite for a reason. FFIX is a fan favourite these days for a reason.

I think that the reason people have come to love FFIX so much in hindsight as they grew older isn't just because they've come to appreciate how it's a love letter to FF as a whole. It's because despite it's flaws, the message really hits. It hits harder as we age. The message that death comes for all and to cherish the time you have. To follow your heart and to treasure the people by your side. To honour the memory of people that left, that in your memory a piece of them will live on, and to know that no matter the hardship, life goes on.

Actually the more I think about it the more I think Blank is a frankenstein monster sort of deal. Like he's not some guy that defied the odds and was sewn together. Instead he was literally created this way. His name being Blank also gives the impression that he doesn't recall his past or didn't have a personality or sapience at the start.

Idk I just feel like there's a lot of potential for a really interesting side story here. Maybe he walked about as a mindless creature before Tantalus found him. Like a black mage. Show me the hidden frankenstein village, square.

Or maybe they just had fun with a spooky design and that's that. Oh Blank, we're really in it now. Please go steal some pants from someone's laundry line.

for a couple moments while rewatching 9 i was questioning. is 9 still my favourite ff? theres some aspects that didnt age well or felt incomplete. but when you follow the whole story, see these cute and silly characters suffer and see where certain things are heading, and then you watch the ending sequence with the heart killing combo of vivis letter, zidane and garnets reunion and memories of life, it all feels worth it. no other ff hits me with such raw real feeling as 9 does, not from the ones ive played so far anyway. sure you have the very real environmentalism and grief in 7, and the rebellion against politicized religion in 10, both very real world themes too. but death is the realest thing of it all isnt it. i know it sounds super cheesy but even im capable of being heartfelt sometimes. and that, coupled with the charm and bittersweetness this game exudes, is why 9 is my favourite ff

rewatching vinnys FFIX stream. "this would be a good time for zidane to say: this is a fantasy... perhaps...our final fantasy...nine" he jokes. meanwhile several years later in FFXVI (i dont have a screenshot but You Know)(unless i hallucinated that)

FFIX on sale again. I suggest getting it on Steam so you can use the Moguri mod on it

man. watching that ffix retrospective vinny was talking about (at least i think thats the one) and its making me emotional. this game is so damn heartfelt and was done so dirty during its time. and now all square does is beef up any projects related to it and bait us with merch

been watching some of those obnoxious BET YOU DIDNT KNOW THIS/ICEBERG videos about FFIX and some stuff really is wild, like

Hades having been planned to be the final boss. strange that they changed it to Necron when they were clearly short on time by the end, and it shows in the endgame writing. why not use that limited time to refine what they had..but well i dont know the bts of it all so what do i know

Ruby was planned to be a drag queen at first

the fact that 9 10 and 11 were all made at the same time by different teams??? so wild to me because i always imagined a very clear cut between the making of an FF and then the next one.

also these gamer essay guys just not being able to grasp that quina is very clearly outside the gender binary and just looking at the og jpn version for that lol. instead its all oh in the german version quina is referred to as "he" and in the french version as "she", which one is it? 🤔
