Timeless Wells (Flash) Soldier- Chapter 7
“They really are like hyenas.”
Allison grumbled as she watched the news report.
The headline spoke for itself.
Another Publicity Stunt by Dr. Harrison Wells.
She clicks it off angrily
When his meeting was over, you had all made a quick trip back. Fortunately the entire meeting went smoothly. You stood at the back of the room for the entire thing. Maybe it was the fact that you were a hired detail, but your presence seems to make the company he was trying to gain an endorsement from more willing to spill their pockets. When they saw the news headline, they were unusually ecstatic. You realized that it’s possible they enjoyed the publicity. It really begged the question who the real hyenas were in this situation.
Harrison was sitting pretty collected in his chair.
“How are you not bothered, Dr. Wells? You were almost kidnapped. “ Allison asks.
“Yes, kidnapped. That’s a good sign. That must mean that they just want something. Besides you heard the detective. The man they hired was a method actor. This could all be a ruse. Someone is clearly trying to have a good laugh.”
“You should have pressed charges.” Allison insists.
“I would never ruin that man’s life for a foolish mistake like that. He was pranked. If anything we should be praising Ms. Yale. She took one look at the man and noticed he wasn’t my employee. You really are top tier.”
“A golden retriever could have spotted him. His tie was a clip-on and he was wearing tennis shoes.”
“I suppose I could be more observant.”
“The fact that you have survived this long is a mystery to me.” He just laughs.
Allison massages the bridge of her nose.
“Now you understand what I deal with on a daily basis.” Allison states.
“All jokes aside, I am worried. Threatening notes are one thing, but whoever this was clearly wasn’t making a real attempt.”
“They almost drove off with him.”
“They hired a method actor. Getting caught was almost guaranteed. They must know that by now security has been increased. This person is calculated to a point. They might not be a genius, but they are clever. It has to be some disgruntled employee. I’ll need you to give me a list of all the employees that you have let go in the past year. Regardless of the reason. Even the smallest detail could be a hint to who is stalking you.”
“Stalking? This doesn’t seem like a classic stalking case.”
“If you look at it from a different perspective, then it is. In these cases, the first approach is usually letters. Then the attempted kidnapping. A chance at a meeting. People assume that stalkers are drawn due to romantic obsession, but it could just easily be the opposite.”
“Hateful obsession...” Harrison states. The way he says it, it’s almost like he’s encountered something like this before.
“Clear my schedule for the rest of the evening. I’ll be busy.”
“It’s not needed. You’re relieved for the rest of the evening.”
“Sir you can’t really expect me to let you just leave on your own. “
You were about to continue, but Allison took your hand, shaking her hand.
“Please, just give him space. We will place the necessary precautions. For now it’s best to stand down.”
You didn’t like this, not one bit. But apparently, you didn’t have a choice.
“I’ll be excusing myself then.”
You couldn’t exactly blame him. Maybe he really was scared and he didn’t want to show it. There was no way you would actually go home though. You’d follow him to his house if you had too.
He was your responsibility, and you’d be damned if you let something happen to him.
