What if vampire amber forcefully turned tara? How would werewolf sam help her? Tara didn’t like how she needed blood now..
Tara never turns, and Sam exiles herself from her pack over it. Their father leaves, and their mother doesn't speak to them anymore. By human law she's still their mother, so they tip-toe around one another whenever she's there - which is rare these days. With exiling from the pack comes human school.
Tara makes some human friends, and for the most part, Sam likes them. Except one. Amber doesn't smell human, she smells like trouble, and Sam can't stand her. Sometimes, from the way the girl smirks at her, Sam thinks Amber must know something. She's certain she's not human, but she doesn't have enough experience with other species to know where to begin.
Sam's more than upset the day 16-year-old Tara comes home and excitedly tells her that Amber kissed her. She doesn't even realise she's snarling at her sister until Tara starts crying. (Tara's upset with her for weeks. Sam expects to spend the full moon alone and miserable, but she still comes outside and sits down beside her silently. Sam spends half the moon with her head in Tara's lap, until she gets up with a "I'm still mad at you" and engages in the angriest game of fetch you've ever seen.)
Tara picks up on Amber's quirks pretty quick into their friendship, but she never pushes, never questions. It doesn't really matter, does it? Tara's hiding secrets too, Amber's are her own. They're dating for a year when it happens.
They're at Amber's and she's kissing her neck, then she bites her and it hurts. She can feel blood begin to well and then she bites harder and it begins to hurt so much more. Tara cries, begs her to stop, but Amber just hushes her, tells her it's ok, that it'll be all over soon, that she'll thank her.
Tara wakes up alone in the morning and stumbles home, confused and feeling wrong. Sam's at work by now, and Tara just crawls into her bed to wait for her.
She spends several days in a fever.
Sam's there with her, sometimes, she thinks. A hand on her head, running through her hair, water on her cheeks.
One day, she wakes up, and she's so hungry. She's starving. There's a noise from downstairs and Tara's out of the room before she can even think about it. She rests heavy on the bannister as she lurches down the stairs and towards the clattering.
Her mother is home, and frowning at her presence. As always.
She's speaking but Tara can't hear a thing, just the sound of her heart. She takes a step forward, and then another. Her mother's tone becomes angry, but it doesn't phase her, she can't even recognise it.
Tara doesn't remember what happens next. Only that when she opens her eyes, Sam is there in the doorway, looking horrified. And there's blood. There's so much blood, it's everywhere. The floor and the walls and her hands and... there's a body on the floor, throat ripped out.
