Finally finished pandaemonium in FFXIV and it gave me thoughts about the ancients and more specifically how I guess I wish more media would do interesting things with the Greek Gods and mythic heroes names and epithets
Athena is smart. But she’s using that intelligence to do horrible things
Hephaestus in FFXIV leans heavily into like, just the one story. The story where Hephaestus traps Hera in a throne using magic chains. This Hephaestus runs a jail for hellish monsters.
I could make the case where Hephaestus is also referencing the story where Hephaestus catches Aphrodite and Ares in magic thread but in this case it’s his wife Athena and his own feelings
Themis is the arbiter of judgement so I guess there’s no real change there
Hades is likewise pretty standard for a Hades in this style weirdly enough but a tragic Hades
I dunno how else to put it but I find it pretty inspiring
