What happens to the humans turned daemons? If the Dawn means the parasites have been destroyed forever, further contagion is impossible - do the daemons turn back into humans? Are they healed? Or is the light so strong it insinuates into every crack, every dark corner, every deep cave and dissolves them into oblivion? Do they turn back at all? Do they stop being contagious but keep the horrifying shapes, the teeth and horns? Are there herds of daemons hiding deep down Balouve mines, inoffensive and terrified of the sunlight?
If they turn back - how? Are they still thinking like humans, or have they lost their mind? Do they have any memory of what they were and what they did, or does it feel like waking up? Are the daemons still alive, anyway? Or are they just deformed corpses, roaming the earth like zombies? Do they keep trying to attack, with claws and teeth and appendices they don’t have anymore?
And the daemons are immortal - what about humans who were alive centuries ago? Do they turn back only to die and turn to ashes instantly? Are there children turned fifteen years ago, turning back into adults? Do they still think like children? How confused are they? How much do they remember? Or does everyone just turn back into exactly who they were? Is it better for everyone? How do parents deal with finding a child where there should be an adult by now? What about grief? What about closure? Let’s go further with that: is there a sudden apparition in Lucis of people who have actually lived parts of the ancient history? Do they still speak an old language, can they communicate at all? How disoriented are they? How long until they can adapt to a new life?
Did the people of Lucis at some point realize that the daemons they were fighting could be their loved ones? Did they expect the light to bring them back, or did they wish it would just put an end to their misery? In the first case, what do they do with all those disoriented people, those possibly traumatized people, those possibly catatonic people? What do you do with people who have been announced dead? Are they reintegrated into society? Can they? How? And which society, anyway?
Rebuilding Insomnia is not just rebuilding a city. In a country with no government, who decides what to do with the mess left behind by the Grand Saving Of The World? Heroes can sit on a throne and end it all in one gesture, but once the ritual is over, what are the logistics? How do you build back a country from scratch? Do you rebuild it at all, or do you just build something new? Can you really build something new, or are you condemned to repeat what you know?
Is it Ragnarök - once the Gods are dead, humans build a godless land - or is it Narnia - once the world of shadows is dead, humans live farther up and further in? Is Noctis sitting on that throne Judgement Day? Does that open the door for everyone to leave to greener places? Is it why the landscapes are empty at the end?
The question, then, remains:
What happens to the humans turned daemons?
