Not a car that didn’t make it, but tragically a designer. By the late 1960s, Pio Manzù was working at Fiat’s Centro Stile, where he was given responsibility for Fiat’s new “supermini,” the 127. In May 1969, while travelling to present the final design to Fiat’s management, Manzù was involved in a fatal car accident on the Torino-Milan highway. Extracted from the wreckage alive, he later succumbed to his injuries, aged 30. He never lived to see what a massive success he had created, winning the 1972 Car of the Year, with over four million built before it was replaced by the Uno a decade later.

Seat 127 (1972–1982), the Spanish 3-door hatchback version of the sexy Italian Fiat 127. Literally a Seat Ibiza, lost on that island. The patina would need to be patended...
