"You aren’t actually scary at all, Kuro-sama,” says Fluorite off-handedly between drinks, with the white bird-thing snoring loudly already, “even though you tried to kill me.” Sitting on the railing, tail dangling into the water in a way that would’ve drowned their previous vessel, Kurogane snorts. "You're not so scary yourself, pirate." "But I am," Fluorite says. From anyone else, the words would be arrogant. From him, they're almost resigned. "Kuro-sama's just fearless like that." (Or; in which a mer ends up helping the arguably strangest pirate and his not-bird on their search, and everything else goes from there.)

The Selection

Summary:

Returning home on the tail end of an injury that ends his dancing career, Yuri Katsuki is trying to find his future again. As a Five, he knows his options are limited, but when he finds an invitation to Crown Prince Victor Nikiforov's Selection, he is convinced by a friend to apply.

He never thought he'd be Selected.

When he is, he finds that his world is changed forever, and that the Crown Prince is not exactly what he'd expected.

Opinion:

Col3bri and I have been enjoying this series since last year. Col3bri was so into it that she actually tracked down and read the ya novel series the fic is based on. (She DOES NOT endorse the source material.) The fic is quite engaging and I’m excited to see how it ends.

Three stones exist in this world: the Sun Stone, protected by Empress Amaterasu, and her guardsmen of Nihon. The Moon Stone, under the ocean in the care of Yuuko, the Sea Witch. And the third, the Star Stone, was stolen, and it is Sakura’s greatest wish to return it to her family. Meanwhile, a guard named Kurogane drinks with a sailor named Fai when he’s in town. Kurogane thought Fai was an idiot, and far too exuberant. He also thought he was beautiful, but then Kurogane was not one to pine.

There is a song, millennia old, that lilts gently through the universe. Not quite audible to the ear. Something that pulls at a place much deeper. A melody that starts in the brainstem and winds down the spine like luscious ivy. A harmony raised by a hundred thousand hands at any moment. A chorus that bleeds through the stars.

Laundry Day

Summary:

The Katsuki-Nikiforov household takes a morning off to do laundry. Living together, it's not just the bed that needs breaking in.

Opinion:

There is so much fandom nostalgia in this one story... the washing machine discourse,  

the bringing together two prominent authors and again celebrating a prominent fic rec blogger.  And on top of that a great story.

Fic Highlight

Summary:

Katsuki sits cross-legged, clearly in no hurry to go anywhere. “What’s your name? I’m –”

“I know who you are,” he cuts him off, then blushes, then hates himself for both those things. Katsuki looks surprised, and Yuri can’t think as to why. He’s a nationally ranked figure skater. He’s Yuri’s favorite figure skater.

Yuuri and Yuri become friends and Viktor develops a crush.

opinion:

One of my personal favorite tropes is pretend relationship especially with Victor and Yuuri.  Put it with a focus of Yuuri & Yuri friendship and you have a great story!  Yuri meets Yuuri when he’s 13 so the relationship is a bit different, but so good!  If you haven’t read this one, definitely check it out. :)

Fic Highlight May 5, 2017

Into the Deep

Summary:

For five years the mysterious pirate ship, the Eros, has tormented the eastern seas. The most heinous of their crimes, the abduction of omegas from their very homes. Some merely children.

Viktor Nikiforov, captain of the Russian military's fastest ship the Agape, has dedicated his life to finding the infamous pirate pack. Rescuing the omegas that he can, and avenging those beyond his reach.

But Viktor's never gotten close to the Eros. He doesn't even know who he's chasing. And the years of arriving too late are beginning to wear on him. If he cannot find them soon the mission and his command will be taken from him.

A new lead in the mission may be just the break he's been waiting for. After five devastating years he'll do anything it takes to catch the Eros and her crew and bring them to justice. And finally he will have vengeance for the innocent souls that were lost along the way.

Opinion:

col3bri:  One of my favorite A/B/O’s out there. Pirates, politics and Victor being Victor all combine to make a very interesting story.  Plus this one is complete.  If you haven’t checked it out, you definitely should. :)

Like a Fairytale

Summary:

In which Prince Victor gets swept off his feet at a royal banquet and will go to any length to find his 'Cinderella' Yuuri. (And Phichit is the fairy godmother who has no idea what he's doing).

“The crown prince of the Nikiforov kingdom, infatuated with a mystery pastry chef he’s only just met. This is exactly the kind of scandalous love story my life has been missing… So, what’s he look like? What exactly is Prince Victor’s type?”

“…Sweet.”

“Well, he does make pastries."
