We’ve suffered some losses but earned some victories.

On the same route to the Safari Zone, had a double battle against a Magmar and an Electabuzz. A combo that spells trouble for almost every pokemon in the party except Smashy. Cycled through a few while Smashy hit Magmar with rocks and killed it, then focused on Electabuzz.

Isn’t rock-type supposed to be resistant to electric? I know ground-type is immune, but I could have sworn rock was resistant as well. A thunderbolt fried Smashy at half health. Not even a critical hit. Squinty ended it, but my rock-solid defense is gone.

Caught a Gloom, could have caught a Tauros if I’d encountered it first. Damn. Went through Chuck’s gym, beat trainers with Big Eye/Soulsucker combo. Chuck went easier this time. Big Eye confused and melted Primeape’s brain before it got in a hit. Papa spore-d Poliwrath and then Soulsucker psybeamed it to double unconsciousness. Victory!

Fly to Mom, picked up my money. Always feel kinda guilty when I do. Mom always says; “Oh hi, Awesome! I’ve kept your room tidy.... or is this about your money?” I’m glad to see you too! I love my in-game Mom! It’s not just about the money! But yes, I do want the money.

Picked up pokeballs from Kurt, Fly to Olivine to challenge Jasmine. Maybe shoulda done more training first. Chuck’s team was lvl27, her Magnemite are lvl30 and Steelix is lvl35. Needless to say, no one in my team has passed 30 yet. Squinty flame wheeled the Magnemites, Ms. Fishy took down Steelix. Lots of training ahead. Need to get this team into the 30s. Gonna need Typhlosion for Bryce. And a tough crew for the Red Gyarados.

When will I learn? Never multi-task during a Nuzlocke. Never take your eyes off the screen. Never assume you’ve won and can watch Sherlock.

Thought Mamphred could handle a Tentacruel. Bubblebeam. Damnit.

Entry #28

The first casualty.... Sprout is no longer with us. Grinding north of Goldenrod, clearing out national park trainers when some woman’s lvl 13 Snubbull ripped out Sprout’s throat/stem with a bite. Worst part is that I’m to blame. I knew Snubbull were tough, I knew this one had already done considerable damage to Sprout, but I kept him in. On his last turn, I accidentally hit vine whip instead of sleep powder. He shouldn’t have been in there in the first place. I should have just had Squinty deal with it. But I didn’t and now Sprout is gone.

Encountered a female Nidoran, but Hamill accidentally crit it to death. Did get a soothe bell however. Wonder how Professor Elm will like seeing a Togetic. Sprout was going to be a big part of beating Whitney, without him, this will be tough. Miltank will be tough. Probably have a good deal of grinding to go with Dorin to get him up to snuff.

Entry #9

Today was a rough day.

Lots of traveling to bring Harmony to Professor Elm while trying to train the team. Very long walk, very little money for repels (it all goes into antidotes and potions), and very slow training for everyone but Harmony. Upside, she knows extrasensory, which is an absurdly strong move for a pokemon under lvl 10. Also, her defense and special defense stats are crazy good. Hopefully, she could become a flying replacement for Ace.

Made it, picked up cash from Mom, practiced Cut with The Beez, started the way back while training Harmony. Arrived at Goldenrod, gave the city a good once-over, kept going to find trainers to battle and Pokemon to catch. Newest addition to the team? A male Nidoran who knows double kick! Will prove to be instrumental against Normal-type gym leader Whitney. Still carry memories of that Miltank of hers and its rollout attack.

Training went well. Ace evolved into Pidgeotto, Thorsday into Flaafy, and Zumba into an actual fighter! Harmony was showing amazing progress!

Then it all went to shit.

We were fighting a juggler. He used a bunch of Voltorbs at various levels. Weakest, lvl 2. Strongest, lvl 14. Harmony was on a roll with two of them and had a good advantage over the lvl 14 one (which was 2 lvls higher than her). It charged up its special defense, so I opted for metronome instead of extrasensory.

Harmony exploded.

I threw off my glasses and just stared open-mouthed at my screen. My adorable Togepi. My precious Harmony. Blown to bits. Let out a few high pitched wails but managed to not cry.

Nidoran evolved into Nidorino! And his very first battle as a Nidorino was against an equal-lvl Raichu. Nice thing about Nidorino, they have very balanced stats, no real weak points. But Raichu got a crit with thunderbolt and now my Nidorino is dead too.

Healed up, caught a Sunkern in the National Park where Nidorino died. Didn’t care. Maybe tomorrow I face Whitney. Maybe she wipes me out. Do I even care anymore?
