“marvus, she’s- she’s hurting him, you have to do something, she’s-”
Pearl starting out holding Volley's hand mockingly ("Aw, no need to be scared") and then actually meaning it in the end ... The two of them clashing over the opposite sides of Pink they knew, unable to bring them together or understand the other's until they fused - thus literally merging both versions of Pink into one, realizing how neither side was more 'valid' or 'right' and finally seeing Pink exactly for who she was, where before they each only had half of the same story ...... Pearl instinctively stepping up to protect Volley when Steven had his outburst, even if right before they'd been fighting ..... "But you were hurt! Badly hurt!" "I was hurt - how did you stop hurting?" "I didn't." ...... Them finally finding love not in other versions of Pink (Mystery Girl, Steven) but in each other, helping them heal from a force that ruined them both in two sides of the same coin ......
Literary parallels 😍
No thoughts just rage player Xefros
Just so we can get the timeline straight here, and understand the characters' source of conflict more -
Volleyball only knew a Pink that was childish and violent, who hurt her but didn't mean to.
Spinel only knew a Pink that was childish but changing, who hurt her and who cares if she didn't mean to?
Pearl only knew a Pink Rose that was selfless and a healer, who had a troubled past and didn't mean to hurt anyone.
Volleyball knew Pink before she changed.
Spinel knew her during.
Pearl knew her after.
Some of y'all really be like: I love my Critical Role characters! Caleb, Caleb, Molly, Caleb, Caleb, Caleb and of course, Caleb's best friend *looks at smudged writing on hand* nougat
Not a day passes by that I don't think about Aelwyn Abernant's iconic entrance of announcing "I'm here to FUCK", breaking a beer bottle on the party host's head, mage hand-ing said beer into her mouth, dipping Fabian into a kiss and then immediately doing a line off his chest and don't get turned on
God not to go off on main about what everyone is probably already going off about everywhere else but I literally cannot stop thinking about That Ruby & Sapphire scene in the SU movie.
The tenderness. The yearning. Ruby's awe that Sapphire could do basically exactly what she was created to do (tell the future.) The little blushes back and forth. The few notes of Their Song that would play in the background whenever they had a moment.
And. Of Course.
"Ruby! I'm sorry! I told you you wouldn't last the day!"
"Well ... I'm glad fate allowed me to meet you."
THIS HEARTBREAKING ACCEPTANCE OF HER FATE
SAPPHIRE PARALLELING THEIR FIRST MEETING AND JUMPING IN TO SAVE HER THIS TIME
