On the back of all this Damage vs. Life loss discussion, how do creatures with infect handle cards like Fog? It says it prevents combat damage, but since infect creatures deal poison counters and -1/-1 counters, do those count as combat damage?
119.3b Damage dealt to a player by a source with infect causes that player to get that many poison counters. (MtGFan: Rather than losing life.)
119.3d Damage dealt to a creature by a source with wither and/or infect causes that many -1/-1 counters to be put on that creature. (MtGFan: Rather than damage being marked normally and being removed at the end of the turn.)
It's still damage (and in combat, it is combat damage), so Fog can still prevent combat damage from infectious sources. The rules above just change how damage is handled.
