As far as I can tell, Slate is more at fault than his father for everything that they did. That's just my opinion tho.

Mutualism is a different thing than Socialism. Socialism relies on government, and government relies on violence to achieve its goals. Mutualism wouldn't be done by the barrel of a gun, unlike socialism.

Not to mention, regardless of the effects, it doesn't affect anyone but the user. It's a completely victimless crime.
Negative effects of being a pothead: Not doing anything and pretty much loafing around in to oblivion. Really, it's their own problem ultimately.
The list for the negative overall effects of someone who is an alcoholic go on and on depending on the individual but the risks of harm to other people from things like driving and violent tendencies.
Now people can say "well a parent using weed in excess can harm the children because they stop taking responsibility" and this is true. But it can be said for any addiction, it's not exclusive to weed. Irresponsible behavior is always irresponsible behavior, it doesn't matter what exactly it is.
