My fanbind of Dancing in the Dark by NineMagicks ✨
✨🌙 Details & more photos below ✨🌙
Dancing in the Dark is set in Prague which is pictured in silhouette on the front cover, done in Cricut silver HTV foil. The first scene takes place on a snowy night which I also attempted to capture. (Are the dots stars or snow? Both. Either. Yes.)
The font for the front cover is a mix of Masqualero and Masqualero Stencil. I wanted a font that played with the idea of absence and darkness so I really like that certain parts of the letters aren't there.
I used the skyline at the beginning of each chapter. The font used throughout is Spectral, except for the court transcription which is in Times New Roman. I also created a little moon moving across the sky motif that I used in place of the -- -- ☾ -- -- that's included in the original text.
I made the endpapers using 65lb black card stock and Cricut silver foil. The font is Altesse. The design is based off of the nightclub in the fic, The Nameless, and Baz's rule of "every night a different name."
I found it difficult to come up with enough names to fill 11"x8.5" so I used some names from books I read last year alongside the very important question "What's in a name?" (Can you find any names you recognize? If you're a fan of Freya Marske, KJ Charles, Alexandra Rowland, Nora Sakavik, or C.S. Pacat then there's a little something in there hiding for you.)
And finally the back cover! This is also the font Altesse but this time in Cricut black foil HTV so that the names disappear except for Simon and Baz's (which are in silver foil.) I feel like this captures the themes that are explored so beautifully in this fic, of being anonymous/being seen and hiding from the past but never really being able to hide from someone you love/who loves you.
Thanks y'all for the tags! I loved seeing everyone's year wrapped! This year was so many things but here are a few things I did...
I started fanbinding:
I started rebinding books:
I learned how to make foiled art prints:
I read 77 books (45 new, 32 rereads)
I learned how to wallpaper
I built a canopy for over my bed
I went above and beyond for my Halloween costume
I started hanging out with a new friend, and an old friend
I spent five months trying to properly medicate my ADHD & depression (we're still not quite there with this one folks)
I wrote 100,185 words, though I didn't publish all of those
I did publish the following:
You know I love you still
11k, E, canon-compliant
One day. Five years. A peek into what it's like to love and be loved by Simon Snow.
I'm particularly proud of this one. I think about it a lot. The prompt requested an exploration of Simon's depression, and, as someone with depression, I put a lot of myself into it.
Candle in the Wind
5k, E, canon-compliant, pure smut
Baz and Simon try their hand at a bit of roleplay.
This one was incredibly fun to write. The prompt happened to exactly match a fic I had started writing months previous so it felt like destiny.
In truth
35k, M, Historical/Regency AU, in progress
The long absent Tyrannus Basilton makes a reappearance in society at the start of London's Social Season much to the thrill and torment of his former roommate, Simon Snow.
I updated this one last night. I love this fic. I've never worked on something so diligently, and over such a long period of time. It's some of the prettiest writing I've ever done.
I also completed every day of the Carry On Countdown!
There's more stuff but this post is already so long. I have lots of hope for next year and am looking forward to spending it with all of you 💝
I find you all incredibly inspiring and can't wait to see what we do next 💖🎊
My bind of @facewithoutheart's fic This Will All Go Down In Flames
❤️🔥
This was my first time binding a fic and many mistakes were made but I'm really happy with how it turned out!
Some details:
I listened to @facewithoutheart's playlist for this fic almost the entire time I worked on this (and I watched 9-1-1 which was also @facewithoutheart's influence)
Cover created in Procreate using the studio pen
Font used for author's name on cover is Pilot Light
Book cloth made of out Heat n Bond, tissue paper, and Essex Cotton/Linen blend black fabric
Title design on front cover and stars on back cover made using Cricut holographic heat transfer vinyl in red
Flames on front cover and text on back cover made using Cricut iron on foil in red, spine in gold
Headband made out of excess Cricut holographic vinyl ironed onto excess fabric
End papers made out of 65lb black card stock and Cricut gold foil, font is Viktorie
Chapter title font: PF Fuel in Decay
Paragraph font: Minion Pro in Book
Twitter font: Roboto
Text message font: DINOsaur in Book
News article font: Times New Roman
Paper used was Hammermill 20lb paper in Cream
I used InDesign, InCopy, Illustrator, Photoshop (because I am a masochist)
The most EXTRA thing I did was the end papers. I wanted to use the same font I used on the back cover but based on the way the Cricut Design Space works, it wasn't as simple as just turning the font into an SVG so I hand traced each letter 🙃 (worth it)
You can check out my WIP posts here, here, and here.
Thank you everyone who weighed in each week and who helped me with formatting! Thanks for coming on this journey with me! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
