admins are incapable of setting rules in stone
staff had previously come to the decision (based on the screenshot above, sent by maple, god bless), that catnip could be used for mind altering affects. this was in a response to an incident earlier this year in wherein a member brought up concern about catnip being used and traded, because it was dangerously akin to ‘drug dealing.’ catnip is not a drug. It was not allowed to be treated or traded (dealt) like one, but it could still be used for mind altering affects. this was understandable, the memberbase was fine with this negotiation. Staff had come to a reasonable conclusion, we had accepted it and we moved on.
months after this was stated, staff started up again, contradicting themselves and saying catnip could not be used for mind altering affects, because once more, it wasn’t in the books (even though we already know that’s a shitty excuse). despite the fact that staff had discussed the rule and agreed on it they decided to change it without warning, thinking they could shoot down the creative possibilities of catnip.
when we brought it up in a thread about how “wait, this isn’t right. why are you changing rules without warning when they had been agreed on?” this was alakritous’s response:
they decided to disregard Maple’s words because she was a GM, because in their eyes, because she was not an admin, and guess what that means? said rule was now either null and void or up for them to bend to their rule for shitty reasons. Alakritous didn’t even bother addressing the actual question; she didn’t acknowledge the fact that it wasn’t just Maple that made the rule, but many others in staff that had come to the conclusion; Maple was only a messenger. Even if Maple was a GM, that did not make the spoken rule any less valid. Alakritous was dismissive of Maple because she was an filthy, lowdown, stinking GM. Oh, the horror!
Alakritous decided to focus on Maple’s rank in staff and target that rather than addressing the actual message itself. now that was unfair, because they instituated that just because she was a GM and she was the one that delivered it that it meant that her word meant less than theirs and that rules couldn’t be set in stone.
essentially, if you’re not an admin, your word doesn’t mean shit, even if it’s not your word, but rather a message you’re delivering on behalf of staff.
i’ll let that speak for itself.
when we asked that staff to make a rules page, they refused because they claimed members should know what is expected of rules. problem is, we can’t know what is expected of us if there’s no real rules in the first place, and said rules are fluid and up to staff’s decision in the moment. like sheo said, if they see something they don’t like, they can instantly change it without warning. it’s a pattern; staff have recently gained the habit of forcing rules and such without the consent of member’s or their knowledge. after all, according to them, staff’s word is law (no matter what, even if law is shitty, or even if a law had been agreed on prior, they can instantly retcon that (and they’ll do it without member’s knowledge too)).
talk about staff reserving the right to create rules and enforce them because they’re in power all you want, there’s no way in hell that shit like that is even close to benevolent or reasonable.
