Cat Got Your Tongue
I was going to start with some catchy opening line but I feel like I should disclose that this isn’t a graphic or explicit but it does I guess in some way contain adult content…
Ok now on to the topic that I never thought I would write about… 50. Shades. of. Grey….
Sorry I’m gonna need a minute while that sinks in again…
I have to say the cat really did get my tongue, and not in a sexual way more in the I can’t find my words.
In truth my curiosity got the vey best of me. I’m not sure if it was because of all the women who were so overly obsessed with it or if it was the women who so openly objected and hated the movie and novels. Alas I found my self renting the movie…. {I’m still shocked that I even hit the play button}
In the beginning the movie seemed like poor acting and bad chemistry. And we’re only talking like 5 minutes into the movie. Then as the two main actors dialogue started to pick up I realized just how controlling Grey is. Having been in several controlling relationships now I can see it right off - and there was no denying that Grey is controlling. And not in a healthy adult relationship way…
I’m one of those people who once I start something I feel like I have to finish it…even a bad movie…. So I kept watching thinking it would get better. And for a little bit it did. I sorta felt pulled in like Ana was likable and fun and sweet…. And then she just seemed sad. Other than when he was pleasuring her she just seemed to be so sad.
And then just when I was ready to give up on this film Grey comes in and gives you a small piece of himself that tugs at the heart strings just enough….
And I’m there I’m right there thinking ok I see it I get it - and then BAM! It goes from erotic to pain and it doesn’t even look like he’s ok with it. It’s like they both know on some level that they’ve gone from pain and pleasure to controlling, degrading, and abusive….
I know this is all the same as what’s been said before but I guess it was so different seeing it on screen than reading what others had to say.
The last thoughts that came to mind as the movie closed out were a) this film and relationship was more about abuse than a healthy submissive relationship b) the meme that says if fifty shades of grey were set in a swamp or a trailer park it wouldn’t be a hit… well it’s on point people who read a book about a guy who had similar tastes to that of Grey’s but didn’t have his wealth and power would be considered abusive, gross, and have unhealthy sexual desires. c) damn my curiosity for getting the better of me! d) My hope is that the abrupt ending of the movie send the clear message to young girls and women everywhere that there is a difference between abuse and between a healthy dominant and submissive relationship. and last e) in truth if you can look past the relationship and see it much like that of Magic Mike than it was an ok decent film….
Ok ok ok I’m good I’m done and I wont go on I wont type anymore of this fifty shades of nonsense! And with that I’m out of here!
Sincerely the Doe with a Bow
