So Fighters Block is amazing and it's free and it's the best "okay I have to sit down and write this but I need some kind of motivation to do it" tool I've ever seen. Basically you set your word count and that's how much health the monster has, and every word you type gives you health and weakens the monster. You can adjust the speed that your health goes down and you can even pause it so you can take a break. It's honestly very good and helpful and gives you a nice serotonin boost when you finish and it's really nice to see evidence of progress that isnt just a word or page count.
You also level up and unlock characters and I think monsters as you go so theres that too!
Dudes if you write stuff, look up Fighter’s Block, it’s a website that fights overthinkers and procrastinators and makes them write.
(Side note, it works weird, so just a heads up have to hit that little ‘i’ button at the bottom of the page and then scroll to the bottom of that page to make it work.)
:)
you guys!! if!! you have!! a really dumb essay!! that you don’t want to do!! then!! check out fighters block!! because if you haven’t heard of it!! it is basically a game!! where!! you win by typing!! and it’s a good incentive!! for school`!! so you can just copy paste it!! into the document!!
I’m going to be real, the Fighter’s Block website is really helpful to slamming down some words! Just tried is today and I kicked some writers block down the hill.
I just got done 1,300 words down in a hour and it was fun to try and keep up with your diminishing health and easy to pause it when I needed a minute to relax! Let me know if any one is up to do word sprints with me some day! :)
FIGHTERS BLOCK.
LISTEN. THIS FUCKING THING RIGHT USUALLY I CAN BARELY WRITE TEN WORDS BECAUSE IM USELESS BUT I JUST WROTE 200 WORDS FLAT OUT AS A FUCKING WARM UP THIS WEBSITE IS A LIFESAVER AND ITS SO FUCKING CUTE PLEASE GO CHECK IT OUT-
I’m really digging Fighter’s Block as a way to get myself writing. It’s oddly encouraging to do little chunks of 500 words and see how far that takes me (5,300 words so far, and I still haven’t actually gotten to Billy) (tho I did get to some Billy-centric pining?)
But I am kind of sad that there only seems to be one monster and it’s just an egg. I kind of had assumed that you would gradually unlock more and more monsters, but I guess they just...left it at the one?
I mean, really it’s the “keep the balloon in the air” feeling I get from the HP bars that helps me focus and keep writing, but it would still feel nice to feel like I’m getting something from “leveling up” as it were.
...and that just makes me want to go back to Habitica, to earn my brightly colored pets, but tbh it always made me feel too stressed, like it was one more thing I had to organize digitally.
taking a moment today to tell you all about the glorious thing that is fighter's block
if you're like me and can't get yourself to write, then give it a try most definitely! you get points for writing and when you've met your daily goal you get xp! no download required, it stores all your writing locally on your computer too
(i'm at level 7)
