Something I see people do all too often is have a valid argument but refuse to articulate it. Instead, when another individual has a differing opinion, they jump on them, accusing them of idiocy and lack of moral character. Their argument turns into little more than ad hominem attacks.
By vocalizing their point rationally and civilly, a vast majority of the people they have alienated would actually agree with them. Many say that they do not need the support of people that can’t understand what they fight for, but my retort is that the more supporters you have, the stronger your case. You don’t need to pander to any group; stay true to your goals and convince others that what you’re doing is right. Leave the petty attacks for the sandbox; we’re adults and we need to start using reason instead of abuse to get our point across.
If people don’t listen, then that’s fine, too. Let them go and don’t start verbally abusing them for not agreeing with you. This Earth houses over seven billion people. You will not be able to convince everyone of your opinion.
In addition, do not think that people all throughout the world have the same opportunities or intelligence as you do. They may have never heard of what you’re fighting for, or they might not understand it the way you do. Don’t yell at them. Don’t start yelling at anyone for their ignorance. Instead, educate them. Tell them what you’re fighting for rather than throw scathing remarks about their “blindness.” Fighting ignorance with hatred is disgusting and needs to stop.
So, enough with the attacks and bring on the arguments. Otherwise, the only thing you’re doing is making the rift between yourself and the rest of the world wider.
