DO YOU WANT TO GO ON A DATE ? | STATUS: ACCEPTING
he was nervous. why was he nervous ? were his palms sweating ? eli was quick to wipe the palms in question against his jeans, praying it wasn't obvious as they walked side by side along the boardwalk, close enough for their arms to casually brush against each other. though casual didn't really feel like the right word. he didn't think he'd ever been casual. he was either intense or awkward as hell, no middle ground in sight. in that moment he felt pretty awkward, though not because he wasn't enjoying himself. it was the opposite, really. he enjoyed robby's company. it was hard to imagine he'd once hated the boy standing next to him, & he was sure that feeling had been mutual. that past almost felt like the elephant in the room, and was part of the reason he felt so anxious.
the other reason was that, despite the reputation he'd carefully crafted for himself, he didn't actually have much dating experience. the only person he'd been on dates with was moon, and while he'd gotten pretty damn good at planning them over the course of their relationship, she had guided him a lot early on. this one was all him, and his chronic people-pleasing and hopefulness for it to be a good day was making his pulse race. lucky for him, he was great at holding his head high and looking confident even if he didn't feel it. that hadn't always been the case, but karate had been good for that at the very least.
the venice beach boardwalk felt like a good starting point. golf n stuff felt too friendly, borderline cliché, and not really ideal for a first date. less than half an hour from encino, plenty of food to pick from, sights to see, and the beach being right there seemed kind of perfect. his gaze was lingering on the beach, watching people enjoy the day. ❛ i've always really liked it out here. just kind of feels like a breath of fresh air, even though it's not far from home. ❜ eli's head turned to the side, taking a minute to glance at robby, a small smile pulling at his lips. ❛ okay, speed round. time to get serious. i will judge you for wrong answers. --- favorite movie ? ❜
