The Oval Lady [La Dama Ovale]
Leonora Carrington
Uncle Sam Carrington
When Uncle Sam Carrington saw the full moon he was never able to stop laughing. A sunset had the same effect on Aunt Edgeworth. These two events created much suffering for my mother who took pleasure in a certain social prestige.

A Girl Is A Half-formed Thing
Eimear McBride
He’s got this job and he won’t drive but won’t get a lift with yer one and he won’t give me his pay now and won’t move to his own and he won’t help around the house and he won’t fill the buckets clean the fire and his bin is full of sweets and he’s getting tub now and he won’t go out and he has no friends in and computer games morning noon and night and he won’t make the dinner even if I’m at work til all hours and he won’t even throw his laundry out and he won’t make his bed and he gets raging if I say and he kicked my washing line pole in two and he won’t clean the drains and he won’t put up those shelves and he won’t take the hoover out and he is eating curry noodles late at night and makes me wash his dishes up there’s something wrong he’s so unfair and I always did my best for you and worst off he won’t come for prayers or on Sunday go to mass says Jesus shove it up his rear I never reared ye to speak like that and what shall I do with him what can I do he’s a grown man he’s twenty-one and sometimes I wish your father hadn’t died that he’d had enough gumption to be a man it never would have been like this I know we’ve had our difficulties but you’re such a good girl that I know I know I must have done something somewhere right what did I do to deserve this treatment? I did try. I did try first. She won’t hear.
The Opoponax [L'Opoponax]
Monique Wittig
The little boy whose name is Robert Payen comes into the classroom last, crying Who wants to see my weewee-er, who wants to see my weewee-er. He is buttoning his trousers. He has beige wool socks on. Sister says to be quiet, and why is he always the last to arrive.

Black Wine

There is a scarred, twisted old madwoman in a cage in the courtyard. The nurse throws a crust at her as he passes, therefore so does the girl.
Random Acts of Senseless Violence

P.S. I'm writing you again late tonight Anne. What happened last night still bothers me and I couldn't sleep. I went into the kitchen and turned on the TV to watch with the sound down before I wrote you again. Channel 9 had on the Dead Baby Hour. That's what I call it. It's an infomercial that shows pictures of dead babies in buckets while the narrator talks about liberal homosexual baby killers. It's so gross but you just keep watching it because you can't believe how disgusting it is. There's one baby that looks like a codger with an axe in his head. They keep showing it till you want to heave but you keep watching. Mama and Daddy saw the infomercial once about a month ago and couldn't believe it. Mama's sister Chrissie gives money to the Tombs of the Unborn Babies foundation and goes to protests constantly. That's one of the reasons she and Mama hate each other. Mama looks at Boob with her My L'il Fetus and says `Oh Cheryl darling you little Boob you're going to grow up and be one of those awful people too throwing your children in front of cars at clinics like Chrissie does.' But Boob says `I won't kill my babies just other peoples' and laughs. She would, too.
Ritratto in Piedi
Gianna Manzini
