네이티브 광고 전문 플랫폼인 Pubnative에서 광고 성과 측정에 대한 흥미로운 기사를  포스팅했다. 광고 성과를 측정할 때 가장 널리 활용되는 metric인 eCPM*을 과신해서는 안된다는 것이다. 포스팅에서는 이에 대한 근거로 3가지를 제시하였다;

1. eCPM의 기반이 되는 impression(노출)은 경계가 불분명한 데이터

모바일에서 노출의 정의는 무엇인가? '단순히 유저에게 광고가 보이는 순간'이라고 표현하기에는 변수가 너무나도 많다. 예를 들면; - 게임 리스트 형태로 5개의 광고가 표시된 경우, 노출수는 1? 5? - 유저가 페이스북에서 같은 페이지의 뉴스피드 형태의 광고를 10분 동안 5번 봤다. 이 때 노출수는 1? 5? - 단순 배너의 노출과 인터스티셜 광고의 노출의 가치를 같은 것으로 판단하여 eCPM을 계산할 때에도 같은 선상에 두는 것이 합리적인가?

이에 대한 대안은 ARPU(Average Revenue Per User: 유저 당 평균 수익)

eCPM을 대신할 수 있는 지표는 수익(Revenue), 수익발생 유저 수(The number of users from whom those revenues came from)다. 그리고 이 두 가지 요소를 결합한 ARPU가 절대적인 성과를 가장 직관적으로 나타낼 수 있는 metric이다.

*eCPM: 광고가 1,000번 노출될 때 매체사에 평균적으로 발생하는 수익 **Fill-rate: 광고 자동화 솔루션에서 인벤토리에 광고가 표시되는 비율. 100%인 경우, 인벤토리에서 광고가 빠짐없이 표시됨
