Tried a different clean-up line style, like a brush pen, inspired by a few French animated films. (Did the clean-up animation while on vacation in France. Thank you Justine and Louaye for helping with the vocals!)

Third Year of Animating for Fun

This blog's actual anniversary was at the end of August, but I hadn't posted about it then, so I'm rounding up to the new year. :) Happy New Year 2015!

It's been a fun year! Although the number of animation pieces this third year is considerably less compared to the amount done during the first and second years, I had a blast "upgrading" my after-hours animation, originally being created on my Nintendo DSi, to the more sophisticated animation program, TV Paint, on my tablet PC.

Terrorizing Kaiju Attack on Comic-Con's "Hall-H" (2014)

I've been attending Comic-Con since 2001 but this year marks the third year in a row I've spotted monsters lurking about at the San Diego Convention Center.

The first two sightings came from the ocean, but in 2014, the kaiju came from above. Half-dragon and half... what appeared to be a rooster! According to myth, this creature is called the Cockatrice.

Who knows what will surface (or swoop in) next year.

Inspired by a visit to the Tyrus Wong exhibit at the Walt Disney Family Museum in August 2013, this is an animation experiment using digital brushes to achieve a watercolor look.

All artwork was created using TV Paint 10.5 Pro on my Microsoft Surface Pro 2 over several months in my spare time. Behind the scenes work-in-progress can be found here.

Second Year of Animating for Fun

Today, it occurred to me that last week was the 2nd anniversary of this blog.

Even though I've been doing a lot more overtime at work (on a very fun project) this past year than the first year, I've somehow still been able to squeeze in time to animate after-hours... just for fun on my Nintendo DSi.

One of the longer pieces from this year is still in-progress, but here's the collection of animation that I've posted throughout the year:

"Kraken in San Francisco" Done!

Even though I kept this very rough, I had fun matting out the Bay Bridge and destroying it!  All animated on my Nintendo DSi.

Today I had a little bit of time during the drive to Orange County to finish the 2nd pass on the color where I added the shadow pass over the base color pass.  I also decided to retime the animation to make the walk a bit slower.

I feel it turned out just okay... nothing special about this really.

In the future, I might revisit this, making this a Snow Speeder pilot walking through the snow.  :)  As I was coloring, the thought of having an epic Hoth ATAT battle raging, then contrasted by a klutzy snow speeder pilot having a hard time walking in the snow really amused me. :)  I think it would be WAY more entertaining than simply a girl falling in the snow.
