I wanted to finally animate something for myself after weeks of Uni work. so I figured why not bust out some of the RWBY cast for something quick. (it's not perfect I just wanted to have some fun)

Third Year of Animating for Fun
This blog's actual anniversary was at the end of August, but I hadn't posted about it then, so I'm rounding up to the new year. :) Happy New Year 2015!
It's been a fun year! Although the number of animation pieces this third year is considerably less compared to the amount done during the first and second years, I had a blast "upgrading" my after-hours animation, originally being created on my Nintendo DSi, to the more sophisticated animation program, TV Paint, on my tablet PC.
Golden Age of Insect Aviation: The Great Grasshoppers
Dog and Butterfly
Terrorizing Attack on Comic-Con's "Hall-H" (2014)
"In 1903, Olivia Wright was the first to pilot the great grasshoppers of North America."
While taking my kids to the playground, I shot live-action footage of a grasshopper, using my iPhone. This is one of many short animated clips I've made for fun. I might continue this particular clip as an Insect Aviation series... who knows :)
It was my first project using TV Paint animation software. (No rotoscoping used. Where's the fun in that?!) My work-in-progress can be found on my blog: animatingforfun.com.
Animation by Wayne Unten Music by Dave Gottlieb
Can this be a full length film?
Took a break from coloring (still lots to do) to experiment with how to create the shadow on the ground. I love how the FX stack in TV Paint feels similar to After Effects.
When I work on the actual shadow pass, I'm going to try match my artificial shadow with the real shadow in the BG plate. I want the shadow cast by the character to appear photo-real. :)
Second Year of Animating for Fun
Today, it occurred to me that last week was the 2nd anniversary of this blog.
Even though I've been doing a lot more overtime at work (on a very fun project) this past year than the first year, I've somehow still been able to squeeze in time to animate after-hours... just for fun on my Nintendo DSi.
One of the longer pieces from this year is still in-progress, but here's the collection of animation that I've posted throughout the year:
One Year of Animating for Fun
One year ago today, I started posting my after-hours animated creations on this blog, partly to force me to practice animation outside of work but mostly to serve as an outlet to create... anything! ...anything that delighted me. Here's a collection of finished pieces (mostly finished) that I've posted throughout the year:
