The final poster for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
Something happened on the day he died Spirit rose a metre and stepped aside Somebody else took his place, and bravely cried I’m a blackstar, I’m a blackstar.
292. BLACKSTAR - Blackstar, 2016
Final A2 Poster.
“SUCCESS”
When we think of the term ‘success’, we define it as a favourable outcome, something that we live by, or something that people chase for throughout their entire life. How do we measure success? It could be what corporations shape it to be- a monetary value. It could be how a person was raised to believe- a 9-to-5 sort of deal. It could be a lifelong achievement that a person has finally caught up with, but deep down, it may never be enough.
Indeed, the process of arriving at the pinnacle of success in one’s life is different for everyone. Some are fuelled by a colourful flow of talent that distorts traditional definitions of success. Some are birthed from a forced desire to get to the top in order to gain power and importance, conforming to society’s take on success, and allowing the pressure of failure interfere and inject into their path to a successful life.
This poster reckons with the idea of success in a traditional setting that fights against the idea of success in the world of creative arts. In many instances, each generation is raised to believe that doctors, lawyers, businessmen and engineers are the ones that earn big; with the façade of fame being a worthwhile cause. What some people do not realise is that the creative industry- namely fields of fashion, architecture, furniture design, interior design, commissioned work, and the push for technology that has never been seen before – are a multi-billion-dollar industry that isn’t something to sneeze at! The daring possibilities in life that fuel creative minds is something that is irreplaceable.
The movement in typography narrowing into the tiny box represents the fading away of success as it nears the end of its lifespan. In other words, it won’t last forever. Emphasis is especially placed on the juxtaposing nature of what success ‘naturally’ presents (a clean, white image) and the potential of what it could be (a colourful, swirl of mystery).
Assessment One: progression of final poster pt.1
Growing from the idea of ‘glitch’ being a disruption to a set of systems- I wanted a reason for the glitch to reverse its bad connotations into something good and inspirational.. (more explanation to come later).
The strong use of typography is taken from previous examples that I have come across. Using paint to form part of its glitch effect was only half of the fun! Structure and juxtaposition was also considered to present the word “SUCCESS”. This poster will explore different interpretations / definitions that challenges the surrounding ideas of success in a world driven by it.
This poster will be heavily weighted on symbolism in its colour, shape, form and composition depending on who is viewing and how viewers may interpret its message.
Week 6: Graphic Design
My final concept focuses on the idea of connection to nature and the importance of remembering our roots. The design shows a tree and its roots, combining elements of two different trees I photographed and merged into one. The key phrases are: "Don't forget your roots", "Plant a seed of awareness", and "Anthropocene". In the animation version, a seed falls to the ground, roots grow, and a tree appears symbolizing growth, awareness, and change. The colours I chose are energetic green and pink-red, with no black, to keep the poster light but bold. The overall message is a reminder to stay grounded and mindful in the age of human impact.
Assignment =Discipline outcome based- one teaser and one final poster.
