Hello. If you're reading this, then that means that the daily-ron-fnf blog has reached its conclusion. Hopefully *on* day 365. Hopefully.

I promised an explaination on why I decided to end it, and I'm here to deliver.

So the short of it is that it was effecting my motivation. After all, trying to post every day isn't the easiest. Especially on days where I have to make entries for days in advance due to refusing to skip days and be all "day 3, 4, and 5" a few days later. I have no excuse to do that when I know how to utilize the queue feature on tumblr.

There are other reasons though.

- mental health. It wasn't very healthy for me to worry continuously about wether or not I made a ron foe the next day. Or being self concious that the quality is inconsistent.

- I have other things to do. Daily ron tends to sap up a lot of my creative motivation to draw, leaving not a lot for my own art or work on fnf mods.

- requests. It's my own fault for taking them. But sometimes some of yall are just plain bossy. And even when it's not the entries that are bossy or give off really rancid vibes, I feel bad when I don't want to do your entry.

I probably would've stopped the blog much sooner. The big thing that didn't stop me was unfortunately a comment claiming that I "lost interest" in ron. That is not the case and I hate that such an assumption could be made based on merely wanting to change some blog visuals.

With my problems aside, I do appreciate how much the blogs grown in this past year. Not once did I think I'd get this far. Thank you.

I think that's about it. This blog will likely just remain an archive of previous rons. So uh.

Go follow my other blogs. I still draw Ron but not on as much of a stressful daily thing.

Under the Songbird’s Wing - Wrap Up Post

Under the Songbird’s Wing started as a thought experiment about what extreme touch starvation would do to a person. The OA (season 1) had me fascinated with that concept, where characters were trapped in glass prisons and could speak but couldn’t touch each other. We saw them grow, learn, and become friends/lovers all while they couldn’t touch.

Given Teen Wolf’s built-in lore/fanon, touch is super important to wolves, and linking the two was easy enough.

From there, I knew that I wanted Stiles to be a human because of my love of human beings holding their own side-by-side with the supernatural. Twisting the myth of True Alpha being anything is probably the closest I’ll come to making Stiles more than human, though I’d argue he’s still a human with a little bit extra.

And, if I’m honest, it was also a way for me to explore casual neglect and the growing touch starvation that was already growing around Stiles before he was taken. It’s not just determination that got Stiles through it, it was that he was unknowingly being prepared, when he was left alone, he had to rely on movies, books, and tv to supplement life experience. While his peers would treat it as entertainment, it was something more for Stiles, and that was just one part that got him through years of captivity.

Like any story, it’s personal. Being an only child, I was alone a lot. Movies were my escape, I knew every moment of my favorites, lines, sounds, score, all of it was just ingrained in my memory so I could tap into it whenever I needed to. High school was fun, where I came out of my shell, but I remember the misery of elementary and middle school. Stories got me through those years, without them I know I wouldn’t have made it. There’s no way. Books and movies saved me and that’s the truth.

Another part of it was that while I knew that escape was always going to happen… I wanted to show that if they never did, if escape was through death, it would still be a better place than Peter, Deucalion, and Satomi had been in before. Season 1 of the OA treated the abstract way of them working toward a goal as… a possible method of escape, but due to the ambiguity of it, I was never sure if they meant escape, something magical, or just death. And I loved that. Extreme angst isn’t my style, but… I definitely wanted the feeling to be that Stiles brought life back to them, and that if they were still to die in captivity, it would be with more dignity than before Stiles had arrived.

Realism was also important. And by that, I mean that once they escaped, the damage was always going to be permanent. Complete recovery is not possible. Not for Stiles, especially not for Satomi.

When I’ve watched or read stories about trauma and it’s just shrugged off in the conclusion, it always annoyed me. The meat of this story was never just about captivity, it was also in the recovery. I wanted to give it the proper amount of time and respect that it deserved without glossing over ugly details or treating characters with a condescending hand. The body decays, skin, teeth, immune and digestive systems might never fully recover or return to their previous state pre-capture. And that doesn’t even touch on the psychological damage.

I’m glad that, it seems like a lot of readers enjoyed that it didn’t ust end right after the escape. I didn’t want to cheapen the story that way, to just have them all just magically be okay and agree to live together. THat would be the same as captivity. I wanted them to separate, take their time to take recovery steps alone with their families, before coming back together. I wanted the relationship to remain healthy, so I did my best to take the time to show how that was going to happen.

Another theme that was personal to me was… how much Stiles was remembered after he went missing. Death paints a different picture from the truth, and my high school class had a very odd high mortality rate. A handful of my classmates died for different reasons and I got to see the process happen again and again where the memories of a person would change. ESPECIALLY if they weren’t popular, they were suddenly the star of the school, the kids who bullied them were wearing ribbons with their faces on them.  

Lies we tell ourselves fascinate me. Especially on that scale where everyone knows that what they’re doing, saying, and selling isn’t true, but everyone just buys into the delusion to ease their own conscious. I wanted to show that, and reflect the consequences when that person returns from the dead.

I know this story could have gone on longer, but I kept feeling like I wasn’t saying anything new. I didn’t set out to write misery porn, I just wanted realistic trauma and recovery, and so I ended at 16 chapters, where it felt natural for the story to come to a close.

All in all, I wanted this to be a story about found-family, determination, and redefining and relearning what it means to be free.

The finale hasn’t even aired yet and we’re all already losing our shit how the fuck are we going to survive?

it's finally hit me that this show is ending. last week, yesterday, even a few hours ago, it still felt like there was more to come. but now i can feel the tightening in my chest, the mix of excitement and dread that comes with this final push.

Its 11:30pm here and the actual plan was going to bed at 10pm and waking up at 4am. Still have to get up at 4am.. Or at least 5. Omfg. I probably wont sleep anyway. I am in full realization now and I will be so broken after the finale.
