Cody is a Person of Interest / NPC that can be found usually at Harvest Street in Landry's Pub. Cody will usually be seen behind the bar, bartending and serving customers there. To regular PCs, he just serves drinks, but to PCs with recognized fame and a criminal record, Cody is actually an information broker.
Once unlocked, Cody's mechanic is that he serves as a form of contractual employer who will provide the PC different tasks / "side quests" to go on that vary based on the PC's Fame, being able to earn large amounts of money for completing it successfully. At the risk of also increasing your criminal record exponentially.
However, failing at the tasks Cody gives the PC can have its consequences, too.
While Cody himself comes off as someone more relaxed than most, one thing Cody takes pride in is his work for the reputation he has built from it. The PC messing up looks bad on him, yet, at first, he plays it off as if everything is alright. Apologizing to the PC for giving them such a hard task, telling them to take it easy for the night and go to bed. But, the morning they wake up, the PC will sudden have an infamy in their Rape, Monster, Pregnancy, Sex and Prostitution fame with an increase of NPC Stalking Encounters. Cody has now spread false info and gossip about the PC as a consequence for failing.
And the punishment does not end there, as to return everything back to normal, the PC has to make it up to Cody. Which, of course, he will compensate them with a decent pay. The punishment varies depending on Cody's stats:
Low Love & Low Respect: Take on a risky job that can lock them into a soft bad end if they fail it.
Low Love & High Respect: Go to visit clients in a meeting with Cody who he allows to grope and fondle the PC, but intervenes if they try to push it further than just grabbing.
Decent Love & Low Respect: Forced to wear a revealing outfit and work a night shift at the Pub, advertising the Pub to people outside and serving drinks to guests inside. Cody records the entire thing while laughing, but intervenes if customers try to take advantage
Decent Love & High Respect: Will take them into a small room in the Pub, where there are horrific levels of paperwork scattered around. The PC has to sort them out for hours.
High Love & High Lust: Will take them into a small room in the Pub and overstimulate the PC into multiple orgasms until they pass out, laughing when they wake up
While Cody is a risky NPC to engage with, his mechanic does serve its benefits. With High Love & High Respect, the PC can unlock:
Cody's Apartment in the Barb Street Flats as a new safehouse.
Getting to join Cody on errands ( "dates" ) and unlocking unique interaction encounters with Cody bringing the PC to hang out either in Eden's cabin with him, or Bailey's Apartment, seeing rare moments of almost 'normalcy' from the two antagonists.
Cody being a figure to vent at to reduce stress and trauma. Low Love & Low Respect can do this too, but Cody will spread your info around which can affect the PC's stats with certain NPCs depending on what they said
If kidnapped or sold to Eden, during his weekly visits to them, if Cody sees a high stress & trauma PC there, he will try to convince Eden to lessen up on them and let them roam around again. He can only do this once, after that? His hands are tied.
After a year in-game, Cody will ask if the PC wants to 'shake things up'. Dependent on willpower, will either be tasked to cause hell for the criminal underground OR earn rank in the criminal underground ( both have varying "end" results and cannot be forgotten once accepted )
RANDOM TRIVIA & LORE
Cody is someone known to make a joke of everything, carrying a smile on his face. Almost nonchalant, with how sarcastic and mocking he can be.
Actually someone who thrives on chaos & causing it. He enjoys stirring up drama and trouble, and enjoys poking at the spots he knows upsets people the most. His mocking behavior is even worse, with how cruel he can be in the worst situations due to his nihilistic tendencies
His Respect stat dictates in what manner he treats the PC. Those with low respect, he tends to see as someone not capable enough, treating them in almost 'adoring' fashion, but it is in fact degrading and at times, dehumanizing. He tends to toss them around more.
High Respect means that Cody sees this person as an equal, and is more willing to give them insights on the personal workings of the town, giving them more responsibilities. While he still enjoys tossing around the PC in his hand, they now have the opportunity to make demands out of him too
Cody is a former orphan from the Orphanage. As a child, Bailey and Eden were considered to be like his older siblings, with how much time he spent with them.
Was there to witness Bailey's rise to power, the removal of the previous Caretaker, and the fallout between Eden and Bailey.
Part of the first generation of orphans that Bailey demanded debt repayment. Used to steal & work at the spa & do drag performances to make ends meet
A former delinquent & popular kid. Often skipped class to smoke weed in either the bathroom or rooftop.
Was classmates & bestfriends with Wren and Niki. Niki and Cody used to even date for awhile. Niki still regrets the breakup
Got kidnapped into the Underground Farm before it was as developed it is now before even Harper was employed, and was considered Remy's "favorite". Often SA'd by them personally, until they managed to escape.
Blamed Bailey for it, and let them knew how much it upset him. Saying it would've never happened if Bailey wasn't constantly demanding work from him, saying he was just as bad as the last caretaker. ( He apologized after awhile )
Joined the Temple in some hope of security. Actually was in there for awhile, and had a high position of authority, his halo proving that. But, Cody became disillusioned from the Temple's methods & passivity within the town after a bit.
Despite this, still kept his halo to spite the Temple. He felt that with his 'corrupt' lifestyle, with his halo still ever present, it spits on the 'good values' the Temple tries to preach to others.
Due to his previous authority in the Temple, and his high ranked divinity, the PC can actually go to Cody for certain Temple services like confession & asking for removal of the Fallen Angel TF
Broke off his bonds with Wren & Niki after they told him about accepting jobs from Remy when they knew what happened to him. It put a huge dent in their friendship. His now closest friends / "found family" is Bailey and Eden.
Paid off his debt with Bailey a month before he graduated high school, having started his information broking career during this era.
Is secretly very wealthy due to his career, though no one would ever guess from how he dresses and act.
His favorite dish is kwek kwek. Cody tends to prefer sweet & savory food, and has a big preference on street dishes.
