GARRUS  AS  ARCHANGEL

GARRUS:  you  saw  omega  .  it  was  full  of  thugs  kicking  the  helpless  .  i  formed  my  team  to  kick  back  .  we  weren’t  mercenaries  .  at  least  nobody  was  paying  us  .  we  made  money  by  taking  down  slavers  ,  pirates  ,  or  gangs  that  went  too  far  . SHEPARD:  it  sounds  like  you  were  just  another  gang  . GARRUS:  then  i’m  saying  it  wrong  .  we  didn’t  shake  anyone  down  .  no  civilian  casualties  ;  that  was  our  rule  .  

several  months  before  shepard  wakes  up  on  a  cerberus  vessel  ,  garrus  ensconces  himself  on  omega  — —  a  giant  mining  station  in  the  terminus  system  .  he’d  heard  about  the  drug  smuggling  there  ,  the  lawlessness  of  the  place  ,  and  feels  he  can  make  a  difference  .  compared  to  the  citadel  ,  which  ,  in  his  opinion  ,  has  become  overrun  with  incompetence  since  shepard  died  ,  omega  is  a  haven  for  criminals  ,  a  sort  of  ‘wild  west’  with  no  laws  to  hold  him  back  .  he  can  actually  do  good  on  omega  .  save  people  .  stop  smuggling  .  hinder  crime  .  

the  very  moment  he  arrives  on  omega  ,  he  rescues  an  elderly  couple  from  a  mugging  .  they  call  him  a  real  life  ANGEL  .  from  that  ,  he  becomes  ARCHANGEL  .

garrus  forms  a  team  twelve  members  strong  .  GARRUS  ,  ERASH  ,  MONTEAGUE  ,  MIERIN  ,  GRUNDAN  KRUL  ,  MELENIS  ,  RIPPER  ,  SENSAT  ,  VORTASH  ,  BUTLER  ,  WEAVER  ,  SIDONIS  .

they  start  to  target  mercenary  operations  on  the  station  ,  ruining  their  plans  ,  killing  slavers  and  pirates  .  garrus  has  natural  leadership  skills  and  develops  into  a  brilliant  tactician  alongside  his  squad  .

GARRUS:  it  was  simple  .  we’d  hit  their  shipments  ,  disrupt  activities  ,  get  under  their  skin  ,  make  them  angry  .  they’d  come  charging  right  into  our  well-prepared  kill  zone  .  crossfire  and  snipers  .  CLEAN  AND  SURGICAL  .  they  never  stood  a  chance  .

they  kept  things  very  clean  and  surgical  ,  as  garrus  says  .  they  didn’t  rough  anyone  up  or  go  overboard  with  their  kills  .  they  didn’t  get  cocky  with  it  .  they  didn’t  do  things  without  a  clear  plan  .  no  civilian  casualties  .  nobody  else  hurt  .  garrus  had  learned  his  lesson  with  shepard  and  saleon  — —  innocent  lives  needed  to  be  protected  ,  no  matter  what  .  no  sacrifices  .  nothing  that  put  civilians  in  danger  .

eventually  ,  though  ,  garrus  became  too  reckless  ,  too  passionate  about  carrying  on  their  mission  .  the  squad  earned  plenty  of  credits  and  could  have  very  well  disappeared  ,  settled  down  ,  ended  their  streak  ,  but  garrus  pushed  them  onward  .  they  went  after  places  on  omega  they  hadn’t  been  ,  hadn’t  reached  before  .  garrus  became  too  ambitious  .  he  became  so  concerned  with  his  crusade  that  he  didn’t  even  see  a  betrayal  coming  .

sidonis  is  captured  by  the  blue  suns  ,  gives  away  the  location  of  archangel’s  base  ,  and  tricks  garrus  into  leaving  the  squad  for  a  special  operation  .  when  garrus  returns  ,  his  squad  is  dead  ,  bombed  and  shot  by  the  attacking  blue  suns  .  he  holes  up  on  the  second  floor  of  their  base  overlooking  one  narrow  walkway  ,  and  holds  his  own  against  the  neverending  onslaught  of  mercs  and  hired  guns  .

that  is  ,  until  shepard  arrives  .
