The money has been transferred into your account. -- The Benefactor
Jordan had been working on some files for various other smaller cases, while this whole big mess with The Benefactor had been going the deputy took on the load of as many other smaller cases as he could, trying to alleviate any and all pressure he could on his Captain. The man dealt with enough as it was. So naturally he had a stack of files beside him and his laptop open. Now all the work concerning The Benefactor case had been done on either Lydia's laptop or Sheriff Stilinski's, never his laptop.
So as he was keying in information on the umpteenth form for that day, there was chime to notify him that he'd received a message. Which was curious cause he wasn't expecting anything from anyone in the department or otherwise. He clicks on the bouncing icon on his dashboard and when the message pulled up, Parrish about jerked away from his desk in fear. Though he restrained himself, he was presently sitting in the station, so the last thing he needed was to make a scene.
Though he couldn't stop the slightest bit of the immense shock on his face or the color draining slightly from his skin. He was so frightened and confused. What did this even mean? How did The Benefactor even manage to send him this message? Why him? He was on the list. Not only that, he couldn't let anyone see this, there was no way they'd believe him if he just said that this message appeared on his laptop. He knew how the process worked, they'd have to put him down as a suspect for any murders that took place or at the very least watch him to make sure he didn't commit any murders.
Slowly Parrish pulls out his phone and opens up his mobile banking app. That had to be the slowest he'd ever entered his password and the longest pause before hitting enter. His heart pounded in his chest and he swore it was becoming hard to breathe. Never had waiting for something as simple as his bank account information to load been so nerve wracking. Then it did and he covered his mouth, trying not to freak out. There was now an extra 5 million dollars in his account that hadn't been there previously.
This wasn't happening. This couldn't be happening. Why was this happening? What should he do? Should he tell some one? Try and explain that he literally has no clue what this means or why it's happening? He knows he should contact his bank and let them know that he has no clue why this large sum of money was suddenly deposited into his account, and that he needed to find out where the hell it came from. Cause that kind of money just suddenly appearing in his account out of nowhere was surely gonna raise suspicion and throw up some red flags. Then something hit him.
"I only make $40,000 a year. Maybe I should just kill myself."
Parrish's heart dropped into his stomach and he closed his laptop, closed his bank app and locked his phone. He just sat there, a blank look on his face. Was The Benefactor offering him the money in exchange for his life? After having learned he'd gotten Lydia pregnant, one of the first concerns had been money. $40,000 a year wasn't much to live off of when you had a house and all the bills that came with that, pets, a car, and now a child on the way.
Five miillion dollars would leave both Lydia and the child set for a long time. More than enough to cover any funeral expenses if The Benefactor managed to actually off him, and certainly no debts would be left behind for them to worry about. It was enough that Lydia could live off it comfortably and be able to actually raise their child and spend time with them, rather than her having to scramble to get a job, be a single mother who couldn't afford to go to college and further herself and her education.
He sat back in his chair, expression blank but distant, thankfully there weren't enough people in the station to notice the deputy giving the thousand mile stare off into nothing. He wanted to know what it all meant. Was it a set up? Was it a way to get Parrish suspended off the force, make him easier to target alone? Cause that's what would happen more than likely, he'd be suspended and put under surveillance at his own home, but he was sure that somewhere among the money hungry assassins The Benefactor had included in his little game, there was some one more than capable of killing a few officers staking out his house and then coming for him.
Or maybe The Benefactor truly had eyes and ears everywhere, and had heard the deputy's muttered words. Had found out about Lydia being pregnant with his child and knew that his salary at the sheriff's department, plus what he got from the national guard still wouldn't be enough to save the new family from having to budget tightly. That this was his life, and the abilities he held, in exchange for the money to take care of Lydia and his child for as long as possible, the money to give Lydia the time to get a degree and still be a mother and then eventually be able to have her own career and support them.
And the thing that made this fact all the more conceivable was that the moment he found out Lydia was pregnant, he drew up a living will that stated in the event of his death or disappearance (while this most pertained to possibly becoming MIA in the line of duty, he left it vague for a reason), that once he was declared dead or officially listed as a missing person, she and their child were to inherit all his assets, which included his money, the house, the car, and just about anything that had his name on it legally. He couldn't risk them being left high and dry.
Either way, Parrish feared he had no way of finding out the truth, no way of actually contacting The Benefactor for clarification. Besides he felt that even if he could, that whoever this twisted individual was wouldn't just give him the answer he sought so easily. It left the deputy in the middle of a crossroad, not knowing which road to take, for fear it could be the wrong one. Cause for all he knew that if he did give himself over to The Benefactor, all that money could be instantly retracted from his account, he wouldn't put it past this person to throw him into a trap like that. Then he would have abandoned Lydia and the child he'd never meet and she'd go on never knowing what happened and left with nothing to support her and the child.
He'd never been more lost or scared in his entire life.
[ So now I really want this to kind of be a thing, like really badly. I honestly don't know what prompted the anon to send this to me and I certainly didn't expect all of that to come out, but it did and now I really kinda want to write things involving it. So naturally I'm gonna tag bellexmort, cause it's her Lydia that's pregnant with Parrish's kid. I'm also gonna tag the Sheriff Stilinski's I follow: xdefensor, finallyseeingtheboard, and sheriffdilf So yeah.... anyone interested in doing a thing with me? ]
