This final semester was a pretty rocky one for me personally. I had a difficult time finding an idea I wanted to stick to, and was constantly switching back and forth on ideas.
I guess it was a sign that I should be doing something I was passionate about and more personal to me, instead of something just for the sake of having an idea.
I think Tri Apparel was something that helped me get through this semester. My faith is really important to me and it was more significant this year more than ever. So, in a way it was helping me to with uni and my personal life all at the same time.
Personally, I don’t think I express my faith enough and I’ve seen a lot of people my age neglecting it in a way. I thought it would be awesome idea to wear the faith that I have, because sometimes its hard to express it through words. Just like how fashion speaks for people in showing who they are, this is doing the exact same thing but using the word of God intwined within the designs.
I’ve have occasions where people who would come up to me when I would wait for they bus, and they ask to talk about the word of God, but from that experience I found it to be very uncomfortable and invasive. Even though we share the same faith and believe in the same God, those people would make me feel like I’m doing things wrong and that I’m not a good enough Christian, just because my church does things a bit different. There’s rules in the Bible and I personally think we can’t do it all, because then that would mean we are as pure as Jesus and that’s just an impossible goal because as humans we’re sinful and make mistakes. But I think trying our best should be enough, and our efforts shouldn’t be neglected or thought as anything less. Tri Apparel was definitely me trying to express my faith, and share to others through what I love to do and that’s designing.
In the story of Adam and Eve they were naked because they weren’t shameful of the body that God created for them, and once they sinned they wanted to cover themselves up. And as much as we would like to go back to that pure state I think being covered (wearing) the word of God is a step closer, in a way. There’s always clothing that are trendy with anti-christ symbols and negative statements, but there’s never a trend for positive bible verses.
Overall, I just wanted to create a different platform and feel for Christian Apparels. That it can be design good, trendy, and most importantly wearable, and not just be a stay at home shirt.
I’m proud of what I’ve created and I hope people can enjoy and relate to this project.
