Final Showcase Presentation
It's time for my final presentation in film-photography class. Our mission was to break the boundary and capture it. Originally, my idea was to break my own comfort boundary and socialize with people I had never met in situations that didn't necessarily create the best environment for conversation. But, technical obstacles arose (as well as some misfortune in finding homeless people on day of shoot) and I was unsuccessful in my quest within the short amount of time I had.
I then came upon a Occupy Wall street Protest in Union Square Park. The scene inspired me. Sure, I wasn't breaking my own boundaries but these people surely were. They were going against societal norms and breaking the boundary between what's accepted and what you believe in. Even with barricades of police men around their protest, these people used their passion to inspire themselves and others against odds. I happily grabbed my Yashica Medium Format Camera and began snapping photos. I caught the protesters, those that chose to stand alone, those that chose this movement to create their own, and even the police man that stood near by without emotion. I captured a moment in history that won't come back, at least not exactly. I captured a time in these people's lives that marked their societal break and movement of not accepting what is laid out before them but wanting to change it.
While this idea may not be completely solid like my last couple were, I feel it has purpose. Not only did I work with a completely foreign medium, but I also immersed myself in the project and let it decide which moments I needed to capture. The next posts are the photos for my final showcase.
