With the permission and advice of a local gardener here in Bejuco we went on a little treasure hunt this morning and found this cacao tree with these beautiful purple fruits. This soft orange fruit has a sour taste but contains twice the amount of vitamin C of an average orange. It is a Sundrop or Guayabilla and is used to make juice or jam. We ate this one in a smoothie yesterday and it was delicious mixed with bananas and pineapple. Since we only have one bush of these at Finca EcoVida and it has just started fruiting we have been saving all the seeds to replant. . Our beautiful oak table made by Alex and Junior is finished and we couldn't be happier with it! It is our favourite peice of furniture at Finca EcoVida! These two brothers from Mastatal are very talented and we highly recommend them if you need any project done. We also replaced the sofas at our rental house in Bejuco so the old ones moved to the farm to complete our outdoor living room area. We love reusing, repurposing and giving new life to old things. Our amazing farm team has planted over 400 fruit trees at Finca EcoVida so far this year and we plan to plant 600 more to reach our goal of 1000 trees for 2020. Diego and Joel are standing next to one of our cacao trees that was planted last year. We can't believe how big it has grown in only one year! It must love all the mulch and care our farm team gives it and every fruit tree we plant. We have 6 more dragon fruit (pitaya) flowers open and we were very happy to see that the bees have discovered them. Since these flowers only open for a very short time we are watching them closely to make sure they are getting pollinated naturally. Thank you little bees!
