Having just watched the Actors on Actors ep with Sally Fields and Noah Wyle, you know what I realised?
The fact that some of the most successful versions of these formats have been episodes where the two guests just volley genuine appreciation for each other’s craft. In a way where you can tell they HAVE been great fans of each other's works and ARE genuinely curious as colleagues and contemporaries. Like they've held pieces of each other's works for so long and now get the time and platform to truly just get into it.
It brings me such joy to see artists not just talk shop but also get so openly giddy and supportive and downright awe-inspired by the people they know, work with, follow the work of, etc etc 🥹🤌✨️
If I like a fic without reblogging it know that I intended for it to be a "to be read later" kinda like, only for it to be buried under 1929499589 other things that I mass like, and then my ADHD pulls a sneak attack and I forget about it.
I swear I'm tryna be better about using my "tbr" tag 😭😭😭
Okay personal opinion time: This song wasn't even in my top 5 when I first had a run-through of the entire album. Cuz against some of the other songs, lyrically it doesn't hit as visually for me. Sonically it's safe, nostalgic in its sound, and having Robert Smith in a track after a song titled "The Cure" is cheeky at best.
But there's something here that you keep coming back to. You hear it a couple of times, and then the sheer yearning builds and builds on itself per listen. The two voices answer so well to each other through the duet. It's old school in its romance, takes you back to a 90s romcom through well-loved yearning montages. And now I can't listen to this song without getting lost in how in love these two sound (separately ofc lol) and how it calls to me to be this in love as well.
And gosh- okay, no joke, this song has unexpectedly become my favourite off of the album.
WAS NO ONE GONNA TELL ME I WAS GONNA BE RAN OVER WITH A TRUCKLOAD OF HEART IN THE NEW SUPERGIRL MOVIE?!?!?!?!
Like the one of the very few times (grateful for the canon-divergence) my heart shook at just how much loss and grief they wrapped her in, and her to STILL be good.
Not kind. Not happy. Not naive. Jaded by her trauma and still be good.
