Dave, the “NMR” guy

TL;DR: Dave teaches noob how to NMR lulz.

I was in lab last Wednesday studying for a couple of my classes and Dave comes in and asks for 3 minutes from me. 

I see Dave as my mentor, along side with Jason, because he is teaching me about the basics and fundamentals of using an NMR without having to take a class for it. I’m really not sure when I am going to actually use this later, but my interest for learning new things doesn’t die and Dave is really passionate about what he works with.  Not even in 3 minutes, he teaches me about chemical shifts in the most basic way possible. And for me to learn something requires me to dumb it down to the point that I can teach a rock how to use an NMR lol. What I really appreciated from him is his undying patience.

About 30 minutes into our conversation about understanding integration, I ask him about working in chemistry industry and he encourages me to try it out myself. I never really thought about working in industry until this year so it’s going to take me a little more time to understand and get myself involved. 

He reminds me that I have the time, and there’s always going to be time. 

Since I don’t really have much to offer to apply to grad school yet, I could always find a job first, but I know I can definitely find internships after I’m done with undergrad life.

I'm gonna start this thing with my tumblr for the next couple of days where I'll blog about the couple of people who inspire me to find my passion in something. I want to eventually look back and see where I came from and see where I am from that point on.
