Big life updates (in an attempt to be more active on here and create records of my memories)

☀️moved to sunny SoCal from Boston in August

☀️spent my first week here road tripping from SF to LA via PCH & stopping at all the Big Sur landmarks

☀️have since explored, hiked, camped, ran, attempted surfing in a few places here in LA- shoutout to A for being my trail running model

☀️started my first semester of grad school- all virtual. I’ve luckily had a few opportunities to go to campus and work in the labs, but it’s still a very different experience

☀️I’m certainly lucky to be living with my boyfriend and his friends and to have an automatic built in friend group, but I’m missing out on a girl gang here in SoCal, which is something I’m certainly missing. Also missing my team and running friends- once again, i am lucky that A also joins me on most of my runs

quarantine restlessness and boredom is hitting its peak- leading to lots and LOTS of baking and booking

tofu chili, corn muffins, cinnamon crumb cakes, almond butter cookies, vegan quiches, lentil cauli tacos

spent the last day of October at the beach with the most beautiful sunset & spent the first day of November in the “mountains” running my legs out

life is good, life is scary, life is exciting!

Me and my succulents and the boy traveled back to NJ (home) where I’ll be residing for the short term future until my office in Boston reopens. I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to stay with family during this time and that i have a job i can work for remotely and that i have a dog and matcha to keep me happy. But i still feel quite lost.

All my spring races, including the one I’d been dreaming of since i make the decision to go to Boston for college 4 years ago, have been cancelled. My training cycle is ongoing, but very much in limbo. I will restart training in May/June in the hope that the current situation quiets down in time for a September Boston marathon, and my legs need some quality rest before then, but i just can’t imagine stopping without some kind of conclusion.

The graduate schools i have been accepted into are requiring my decision sooner than I’d like, but without a visit to their physical campuses and cities (impossible rn) i can’t see myself making a decision. And on top of that, I’m still waiting for 2 more schools to get back to me. High anxiety on that front.

To all healthcare workers, my heart goes out to all of you. You are so brave. Thank you for all you are doing.

-someone on this lovely site or maybe on insta (i think it was @rachaeldee ) posted this recipe a week or two ago and i finally got around to making it and YUMM wow i am content. Definitely gonna become a staple in my kitchen!

-also finally got around to going to a slow yoga class today after not practicing for MONTHS and I’m so glad i did. I’ve definitely lost flexibility- and a hip injury doesn’t help- but getting back into it should help.

-still overly emotional about the trials. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Running On Om’s podcast with Molly Seidel! It made me cry on my commute. But all the women who made the team are truly inspirational and i have a little glimmer of hope to one day run the trials too.

I finally did the thing! Broke 20 in the 5k! With an injury no less! Fueled by adrenaline, the cold, and the excitement of the track meets i had witnessed the day before at BU!

My fitness and overall physical wellness are not where i want them to be ideally (tendinitis in the patella and hip flexor aren’t helping!) but I’m doing the things! 11 weeks til Boston as of yesterday. I got lots more work to do but spirits are staying high and I’ll take all the bumps in the road as they come.

Stone Cat 50K: Before & after! Official time- 5:09:36

Officially an ultra runner now. To be completely honest, it was a tough race. I was in quite a lot of pain and discomfort at a point way earlier in the race than i expected. A lot of things were just not going my way and mistakes were made, but hey, it’s all part of the experience. Probably won’t be doing another ultra for at least a year. Now i have to somehow recover in time for NIRCA nationals 2 weeks from now. And then (after a few weeks of total recovery obvi) it’s onto training for Boston 2020!
