hey hi i wrote a little introduction drabble for jinx (the character from the last post i made, if you haven’t seen it)

fair warning, i wrote this in an hour and a half, late at night, and mildly hungry. the characterization and pacing is a little dogshit, but give me some grace bc i wanted this done as soon as possible

also in case you were wondering this is a bit under 1.4k words

Lance and Dot sat in their living room, idly chatting in between tasks. Lance’s eyebrows furrowed as he annotated a textbook that the Bureau would need to make an updated copy of soon. Dot, as quietly as he could, was trying to put a design on his violin, as the wood was starting to fade in color, and he’d been wanting a unique appearance for it for a while.

Just as Lance had looked up to ask Dot a question, though, Dot’s phone had rung; Finn was calling.

Dot quickly shot an apologetic look to Lance as he answered, “Hey, Finn! What’s up?”

“Hey, uhm… I don’t know how to explain this, but we just took in another kid, and… I think they’re related to you?”

“You. You think they’re what?” Dot questioned.

Lance tilted his head at Dot, who held up a hand as a response.

“It might be better if you come see for yourself.” He chuckled, “Oh, and bring Lance, if he’s not busy.”

“Uh- Sure, I guess! We’ll be there soon…?”

“Great, thanks Dot! I’ll see you in a bit, then!”

“Right..” He hung up, placing the phone back down.

“What is it?” Lance walked over.

“Apparently, a new kid Finn and Ava took in might be related to me?”

“Oh. Well, that’s.. Something.” Lance blinked.

“Yeah. He wants us to go check it out, if that’s okay?”

“Of course. I was getting tired of that book anyways.”

Dot just laughed in return, moving to get ready to go out, Lance not far behind.

The two walked up to the door of the Ames Children’s Home, Dot taking a deep breath before he knocked.

Soon after, Ava opened the door, smiling at them. “Hey, thanks for coming!” He stepped aside, “Come in! Finn and Jinx are in the common room.”

“Jinx?” Lance asked.

“Oh, yeah, that’s the kid’s name!” Ava began leading them to Finn, “They don’t talk much, but also they only met us a couple hours ago, so it’s only fair.” She shrugged.

“Uh…” Dot hesitated, “Are they a boy or a girl..?”

Ava tried, and failed, to disguise her laugh as a cough, “You sound so scared to ask that! It’s fine! So, supposedly they’re intersex, at least that’s what the parents told us, and given that they’re not old enough to really identify themself either way, we’re just… sticking to the middle ground.”

Dot blinked, confused, and turned to Lance, but before he could begin to ask the question, it was already being answered.

“Intersex is having qualities of both sexes biologically. It can create changes to the genitals, to hormones, to organs, to chromosomes, etcetera. Though, Ava, do you know what variation the kid has?”

“Not sure! The parents didn’t give us much info, I think they just wanted to get rid of Jinx.” She shrugged, “At least they knew to come here, though.”

The three of them walked into the common room, where Finn stood, smiling, and greeted Lance and Dot. A small, quiet figure peeked from behind his legs.

“Hey, guys! So glad you came!”

“It’s no problem.” Lance stated, Dot nodding in agreement.

“I’m sure Ava gave you a bit of a rundown, but uh,” He stepped to the side just enough for the figure to be visible, “This is Jinx!”

Jinx silently waved at them, to which they waved back. Dot crouched down to reach their height, and began talking in a soft tone.

“Hey, kiddo! How are you doing?”

They shrugged.

“Fair enough!” He smiled, “Say, do you wanna go play a game? My friend Finn over here has some really fun ones, promise!”

After a moment, they nodded, to which Dot gave a quiet cheer and led Jinx to a different room, where he knew the games would be. When Finn had first opened the orphanage he had the main friend group help out with the layout and decor, so they all know their way around the place decently well.

Lance stayed behind with Finn and Ava, watching his husband excitedly walk away with Jinx by his side.

“Anyways!” Ava turned to the other two, “While he’s doing that, let’s have a chat.”

“Yeah, I’d like to know why you think they’re related to Dot..?” Lance asked.

“Well, we have no confirmation, but Jinx’s mom looked a lot like Malta.” Finn said, moving to sit down at the couch, Lance and Ava following.

“You didn’t get to ask anything?”

“Nah, they really wanted to leave as soon as they could, for whatever reason. They kinda seemed like they didn’t know how to raise a kid at all, which is probably why they gave Jinx up.” Ava explained, “But the mom, I think her name was Clara? Her hair was just a bit darker than Dot’s is, and she also had one of those zigzag marks.”

“Do you know anything about her magic? Or other family? Did she give you any information to go off of?”

“I overheard her talking to her husband as they were leaving, and they said something about her grandmother, but I couldn’t catch the name.” Finn sighed, “I don’t know if this hunch is actually-“

Dot marched back in the room loudly announcing, “Guys, I figured it out!”

Jinx trailed slowly behind, wincing at his booming voice. Dot turned to them with a quick apology before looking back at the others.

“Jinx’s mom is my second cousin!”

“Wait, really?” Lance asked.

“Yeah! My cousin Clara! Our grandmothers were sisters, and we grew up around each other for a while, but then Clara and her parents had to move when I was like, 8 maybe? No one ever told me why, though.” He shrugged. “I haven’t heard from her since, though. Had no idea she had a kid, or even a boyfriend!”

“They’re married, I saw rings.” Finn pointed out.

“A husband! And I never knew!” Dot laughed, “Well, that settles that, then!” He put his hands on his hips.

“Right, well, I suppose we should get going, then.” Lance stood.

Finn and Ava quickly glanced at each other before standing too, stopping the others.

“Actually,” Finn whispered, “Can I talk to you guys? Like, outside?”

“Uh… Yeah..?” Dot worried, “Is everything okay?”

Ava slipped off to go distract Jinx while Finn took Lance and Dot outside.

“What’s wrong?” Lance asked.

“Look, here’s the thing.” Finn sighed, “We wanted to make sure Dot was related to Jinx because, well… we were wondering if you two would take them in?”

Lance and Dot both froze, unblinking, at Finn’s words.

“You want us to… raise Jinx?” Lance asked after a while.

“You don’t have to! It- you know, it was a stupid question, sorry! Forget I asked that, then-“

“No, hold on, Finn.” Dot cut him off, “Why are you asking? Genuinely curious.”

“Well, uh… Clara, and her husband, they seemed, not like the best parents. I don’t think they were ready to have a kid, I figure they named Jinx that for a reason. I doubt they were abusive at all, though, just.. uncaring?” Finn paused, “And when I realized they might be related to you, I figured maybe this would give them a chance at having what they had before, but better. Two parents, no siblings, something… quaint? Smaller than an orphanage, you know? But if you don’t want to, then-“

“We’ll think about it.” Lance stated simply. “That’s not a decision that should be made on the spot. Give us a week, alright?”

Finn’s eyes lit up, “Yeah, yeah of course! However long you need!”

Dot turned to Lance, “Really? I for sure thought you’d be immediately against it.”

“Are you?”

“I mean, no, but you’re working for the Bureau a lot, I didn’t think you wanted a kid.”

“I never said I didn’t.” Lance shrugged.

“Fair enough.” Dot agreed, turning back to Finn, “Yeah, we’ll think about it, man! And, even if we decide against it, I can still come visit Jinx, right?”

“Absolutely! They’ll be safe and sound under my roof, I promise you that.”

“Awesome! Well, then, we should actually get going now.” He chuckled.

“Right, of course! I’ll see you later, then! Bye!” Finn waved, watching Lance and Dot walk off his property, hand in hand, back to their own home.

my mom is a pre school teacher and has a bunch of these little wooden figures that, presumably, the kids are supposed to draw on to turn into people, and since she’s not using them anymore i had an idea

hi someone said they’d want to hear my opinions on mashle ships so here we are ‼️ i’m just doing the ones i see the most commonly but if you have one you want to know my opinion on send me an ask!!!! i’ll gladly respond to anything :)

- finnmash. 5/10. i think it’s very cute and silly but i just personally don’t ship it. i hc mash as aroace and while i definitely COULD see qpr finnmash, i prefer to view them purely platonic

- landot. ♾️/10. do not even get me started on them i will never stop. they do not call me the landot ceo for nothing that is MY ship and i’m deranged about them

- dotmash, lanmash, or lemmash. 2/10 for all. i don’t have anything AGAINST them but i just don’t actually see any of them like at all. if they were sideships in a fic with a main plot i cared about i’d still read it

- dotfinn. 6/10. it’s cute and i absolutely get the appeal of it but i just can’t actually see it that much and don’t ship it

- finnlance. 4/10. honestly i don’t actually see this one around much but i still wanted to put it for the sake of pairings within the main 5. i don’t see this one actually working either though. like i get the concept and all but.. eh?

- lemdot. 4/10. yeah he’s in love with her but she does NOT want him. if i see cute art once in a while i’ll like it but the ship itself i don’t care for in the slightest

- finnpaccio. -100/10. i hate finnpaccio. so much. i tried to like it i really did but i just can’t stand it. i don’t like carpaccio and i don’t like this ship. the amount of landot fics i didn’t read because they included finnpaccio is absurd, but i can’t ignore it. it makes no sense to me and i genuinely cannot POSSIBLY understand why finn would ever date carpaccio, character development or not. no hate to the finnpaccio fans of the world but i personally despise it

- abelabyss. 10/10. peak as fuck. they’re like trying to be canon without actually being canon and it’s great. they’re crazy in love and a little bit toxic around the edges and it’s incredible

- lemonlove. 8/10. i enjoy this ship a lot and i think being in love with a girl would save both of them actually. however they never actually even interacted in canon and any interpretation of their dynamic is purely fanon which is fair and a common fandom thing but it DOES knock off points for the ship itself unfortunately

- raymax. 8/10. and they were roommates. (and like best friends and everything but it was funnier to just say that)

- izwahlberg. 7/10. they had a CRAZY breakup when they were like 20-something but before that they were like such a good couple. and meliadoul was their not awkward third wheel and, most importantly, the most violent one. it was great. unfortunately though CYRIL decided to do god knows what and it was all downhill from there

- ANY minor/adult or significant age gap ships. -10/10. get out. i’m not saying any more except for fuck raymash in particular

- finnava. 10/10. yes i DID sneak this one in and there’s nothing you can do about it. it’s perfect and beautiful and i love them a normal amount

i’ve thought about this a couple times jokingly but on god hear me out right now PLEASE

finn x the announcer girl

look, we know nothing about her. not her name, not her age, not her year, not her dorm, not even if she actually IS a student, but i always considered her one so i didn’t actually think of the possibility of her being an adult until literally just now?

anyways, all we can gather is slight glimpses of her personality through her being the announcer

so allow me to absolutely smother this girl in headcanons and make this ship work.

(also we’ll call her ag for short until i think of a name for her)

ag is a 1st year continuing student at easton. (same as finn iirc) she’s in adler, and has an incredibly outgoing energetic personality. think almost similar to that of kineshi hairo from saiki k. she’d been the announcer previously (however the school system works in terms of before easton? i’m unclear on that bc they’re 1st years but also considered continuing students. previous school that’s tied to easton i presume?) and the announcer at easton before she got there was a 3rd year, so after they graduated it was a pretty easy decision for her to be the next one.

finn had known of her already considering they’re both continuing students. they hadn’t spoken at all though considering finn’s avoidant (?) personality. the most she knows about him is that she’d the little brother of rayne.

she becomes more aware of him when dv candidate exams start, considering that he’s one of them, and finds his pathetic but caring nature endearing.

then when she sees the carpaccio fight, she kinda realizes that this guy is WAY more than she thought he’d be. like he’s resilient and brave and has a strong moral compass and everything, and she’s like. oh.

over time she starts to take more note of him, but doesn’t let it affect her work at all or anything so no one really notices. she cares about her image and the way she does her announcement commentary very dearly and refuses to allow it to be messed up because of some random boy.

BUT THEN.

innozero shit happens, everything is fucked up, she’s not been an announcer for anything in weeks. but she’s still watching with the rest of the world.

and she sees finn’s efforts through that whole last arc and, if you ask her about it, she’ll deny it like her life depends on it, but she’s SMITTEN by his determination and personality and everything he did, no matter how successful.

then, she kinda doesn’t do a whole lot about it for a while. what exactly is she supposed to do in the first place? she’s never really navigated romance before or anything, and she’s not even close with finn at all either. but that’s as good a place to start as any, she figures.

near the beginning of their 2nd years, ag weaves her way into the group, ever so slowly. she already knows tom decently well since he’s the captain of the duelo team, and (in the least rude way possible) uses him to leverage herself into a group hangout. in this, though, she ends up being near tom a lot and people mistakenly think they’re dating. i have no reason for putting this in i just think it’d be funny because it would easily be resolved since tom’s only love is for the game and also bamboo. my aromantic athlete bamboo-loving king ‼️

ANYWAYS though basically through tom she gets to know the group etc etc she gets to know finn.

i don’t have many ideas for their relationship building itself as of now, but i just know that after they’re established it’s very much a “HE ASKED FOR NO PICKLES.” dynamic
