while Cliff doesn't have a favourite child among the gaggle of Pike kids, Jade is incredibly fond of him. Not only because he plays SUPERB Kill The Orc without having to explain the rules, but because he is funny, reasonably smart (her words, not mine) and brings a lightness into the family that fundamentally changes their lives. (And with 6 sisters, Cliff knows how to braid hair, knows all the girly 90s tv shows by heart and is not ashamed to dress up as Rufus from Kim Possible for Halloween.)

Cliff and Moss have a seperate groupchat to rant about their favourite Pikes because Jackie and Hayden are crazy™. Surpisingly (or unsurprisingly to anyone who knows him) Ilya has weasled himself into the chat, too. Simply to gather information on how to annoy Hayden more.

Hayden is openly bisexual once they're out, doesn't talk around or hide anymore (he gets horrible messages from his brother and the rest of the family after that), but Cliff never labels himself as anything but "not straight, I guess".

Once Hayden stops Hockey, he volunteers at a queer youth centre when they ask via social media for helping hands when the centre moves and renovate the new place. There he meets a kid that comes from a equally abusive household and they bond. He starts working there for free two times a week and when he's working at the Irina Foundation and the Summer Camp, he pays for the kids of the centre to take part in it.

Hayden and Scott become really good friends, because they're the two people who get bullied (lovingly of course) by Ilya the most. Together, they finally manage to bring the same kind of menace into the mix and give back as good as they get.

Hayden does NOT upload any pictures or videos on social media without at least 2 people checking it over.

I kinda imagine Hollanov's kid (probably adopted) to be Arthur's soulmate.

Both Jackie and Hayden have ADHD, and the rest of the Pike kids are neurodivergent in one way or another, while Cliff is neurotypical.

First time they go on vacations alone, Hayleau are in a little fancy hotel somewhere at a beach and while it is beautiful and lovely to have everything to themselves and enough time to fuck, they're bored out of their minds after 2 days and miss their kids, their cats and dog and...uhhh...even Rozanov...*shudder*. So, the next time they go on vacation, the whole family plus Hollanov go with them and they visit water parks, museums, roadtrip around Spain (author's input: do that if you have the opportunity, best 2 weeks of my life lol).

Moss

is a nonbinary professor from London, but actually born in Manchester. They love pub nights, board games, reading smutty romance novels and Bad Bunny. They kind of dress like a goth version of Hozier, and they have a few tattoos (all forest related like moths, mushrooms, trees, bones etc) and a tongue piercing. They're incredibly smart and have the patience of a saint. incredibly sassy and like to "channel the audacity of cishet men" to achieve what they want in their life. (part of their character is modelled after my wife lol)

Emil Stephenson/Eduardo Martinez

they met in 2019, and Eduardo was the first one to chirp on the ice after Emil tried to goal on him. (hey, yes, I know that goalies are technically not allowed to become captains in the nhl, but dang, guys, this is a story were people wear their soulmate's first word on their skin, permanently...lemme give them goalies some extra love and appreciation.) Pissed out of his mind, not because of the soulmate thing, but because who fucking daresto critizise his skating, Emil chirps back and boom, "gurr gurr you fucking pideon" is on Eduardo's skin.

Their relationship is a whole lot more intense from the start. They don't even kiss until 2024, only after Hayleau accidenally come out and Emil visits Cliff to get advice. (All he got was a hangover and Yuna Hollander's phone number lol.)

Emil is from Denmark. He is about 195cm/6.4 tall, huge muscle dude with a good belly. he has grey eyes with gold eyelashes (Eduardo is fascinated by them), shoulder long blond hair he wears in a bun and gets a pigeon tattoo in 2025 once he and Eduardo finally say ILY for the first time. He has a tiny lisp, is actually extremely shy, but his body does most of the intimidation anyway. He speaks a bit French and German. His favourite place in the world is a tiny beach at the Baltic Sea. He hates licorice, could eat chocolate ice cream all day. Listens to tons Japanese and Korean Rap. Favourite Movie is Matrix. He's pretty good friends with Luca Haas (European bromance!) His favourite player is actually Zane Boodram, but when he's being asked he always says some old dude from like 60 years ago. Has bitten Eduardo's butt cheek SOOO many times, the mark basically stays there.

Eduardo is from San Diego, but his parents are Brazilian-Cuban decendant. He's 189cm/6.2 tall, body like a damn fridge guys, beautiful brown eyes, the most perfect face ever. imagine the most beautiful man on earth and add 200%. (Emil is LIVID about it, bc what the fuck is this guy so pretty for? also hides his face all day behind big goalie helmet, stupid fucker!) He's incredibly romantic, and feels so much remorse for the chirp-soulmate mark on Emil's body. Boy can dance, like REALLY dance (hiphop, freestyle, rumba, tango, salsa, lambada, popping, breakdance, waacking, you name it, Eduardo does it!) Super allergic to hamsters and bunnies, which he finds is a great tragedy in his life because why does his body reject cute fluffy animals. Gets a belly piercing as a joke, keeps it when he sees Emil going feral for it. big fan of stargazing, hand holding, whispering sweet-nothingnesses into his partners skin, absolute romantic by heart. has a bright, contagious (obnoxious) laugh. has reflexes like a god.

Hand placement is where I got the idea for Ilya’s soulmate mark 👀 (also when Shane gives him a bj, he sees Ilya's mark, while Ilya can put his hand on Shane's neck and touch his soulmate mark. Needless to say they love it!)

Jackie and Moss create a space-art work together that Eric Bennett tries his hardest to get his hands on lol

Originally, I planned for Ruby and Jade to be soulmates to clearly show that soulmates do not have to be romantic at all. I just couldn't work it into the story. But it's canon for me.

Jesus and Judas were soulmates, so that's why Hayden’s religious guilt hits even more and same sex soulmates are incredibly frowned upon in this universe

Hayleau get a dog and Cliff's sister names the puppy Ketchup. Just because 🙈

their tattoo artists, Niki, is actually TheDevilMayWhine. Hayden learns about it eventually. It's a super sweet reunion.

Marley has a very beautiful singing voice, Hayden definitely has not. Makes the Abba karaoke even funnier. Cliff was just so gone for him, thinking he sounds lovely and all, while hayden has never hit a note in his life

First double date with hollanov should have been hiking, but they somehow end up in a rage room and Shane and Marley just watch as their two traumatised partners crash out in there

2nd double date is in a waterpark

how did you come up with your soulmate AU, and do you have writing tips for newbies?

hellooo and thank you for the ask!

I have reblogged a few writing advice here earlier and I would recommend to check out this amazing masterthread.

If I had to give only 3 tips, I would tell you the following:

don't think, just write. let it all out, don't edit, don't read over it, don't spell-check, grammar check, just out with it. You can make it good and pretty after you finished it. because this is what we want in the first place: finish it!

if possible, create a writing routine. such as light a candle, put on music, pet your cat, grab a coffee/water/tea/snack and turn off all distractions such as internet. get in the mood and then give yourself 30 min to just excist with your writing. and with this, let's go to the most important of the three:

if it flows, it flows. if not, don't stress about it and try again later. writing should be enjoyable, even if we all joke about it sucking ass sometimes. But sucking ass can be fun, too, you know? so, don't stress, write if you feel like it, don't if you don't. you are an artist, not a machine!

for Marleau, you motherfucker!:

I was talking to my sister in law one afternoon and just got the urge to write someting, scrolled through pinterest for prompts and saw a "red-string" moodboard and was like: hayleau. I want them to smooch. and then sat down and started writing with no preparations. to be very honest here - I barely did any plotting at all or sit down and thought a lot about what and how to write this story. It just poured out of me in less than a week, and for most of the time I winged it lol It just needed to get out. But I am fortunate to have a pretty visual mind, and therefore were able to put all the connections into the story and tiny easter eggs with little preparation. Usually, I'm someone who preps a lot more before writing a big story, but I feel like I might not do that as much anymore as MYF! is by far the best thing I've ever written, and I really enjoyed the no pressure/no guideline kind of writing with this one. and these were the only notes I took while writing so I wouldn't forget to add the ideas:

And yes, I made a visual for Hayden's leg and so my brain wouldn't break wach time I was trying to write about how the soulmate mark looks at his leg lol
