So it's not as different as it is here. I'm sorry for such short sentences and explanations, the askbox is a cruel mistress. It really depends where you live. In places where there are a lot of universities there are immigrants and besides that in the most know cities like Helsinki and Turku. Of course there are children who are half Finnish and some other nationality. There are a lot of people moving here and I think it has been on a rise really. I'll continue this on the next message? ->
The attitudes vary but what I've perceived there is a lot of racism. It's coming from misinformation really and depends in what kind of a crowd you're in. The media, government and people with common sense are really fine with everyone. General idea I have is that it's not really differ from rest of the world, it's more "innocent" in a way though. We talk a lot about the Winter War between Russia and Finland. We have this healthy sense of patriotism, but it's not really a everyday thing. ->
I can see how that makes sense. I figured it'd be the usual attitude towards immigrants and not like the US's attitudes.
Of course! I'm sure you know about the Winter War! Russia sent a MASSIVE army and Finland just kinda whupped them back with a wee force! Heck, even I heard of it (though not from school or anything).
We have this joke you might glance upon on internet when there is a mention of Finland, "Finland mentioned! See you at the town square!" poking fun at the fact that we're so proud of ourselves that even a small notion is worth a celebration like on New Years or such. Silly fun. We consider ourselves Scandinavian, at least so I've understood. That's what I can tell you about Finland through my eyes!
D'aaaaaaaaaaw, that's adorable and awesome! Man, you Finns sure know how to have a good time for any occasion! And one just loves folks who can celebrate well!
Cheers, FinnFriend!
