the fittest ♰ finnick
It was hard to be alone in this place, but like many things, Subaru didn't exactly mind this as much as he used to.
He could thank -- or perhaps berate -- his partner for this, though it wasn't her fault they were connected as they were. But her influence nonetheless was strong in his weak conscious, managing to quell the issues of esteem that constantly lurked in a head plagued by inadequacy. Her nature was kind and selfless -- an empty girl who wanted to feel the love and friendship of others -- and so Subaru often found himself in situations with strangers he would have never chosen in the first place.
And yet, at his core, running away was his specialty. He craved the solace of silence, of temporary quiet in his thoughts and the world around him. If he missed anything, it was the garden in the lavish mansion he called a home; it was easy to get lost, to vanish for days unseen, unspoken and almost without an identity. To be nonexistent... perhaps even better than death, because he would have never lived in the first place.
But here, especially here, this could not be.
The closest he came to anything similar was the lake. Often, the courtyards were too noisy, even if only a few others occupied, and so this became the next best thing. He thought briefly of the lake on their property; it was a place he did not visit many times, but a place that could offer peace nonetheless. It had been enough and this place, too, was enough.
Idly, he took to tossing stones along the shore. There was nothing better to do, after all. The surface was like glass; they skipped easily, his throws sometimes too strong as the stones sunk to the bottom. Exerting energy onto this activity was enough to temporarily calm agitation...
It would seem even here, however, he was not alone.
His vampiric senses felt another nearby after about twenty minutes of stone throwing. Ah, he would not be even slightly content for long, of course. He hardly deserved the luxury. Still, it was perhaps Inori's presence that did not want to immediately attack. No, she was much more... curious, which felt disgusting especially when it concerned a potential enemy. Potential? No, guaranteed -- the world was his enemy whether he liked it or not. Whomever this stranger -- this pitiful excuse of a human, naturally -- thought they were, they would get a taste of that immediately.
Regardless of the reluctant mercy he employed, Subaru did not deny a challenge.
"... ...Tchh... hiding like that," He said with a sneer, "Did you think I wouldn't fuckin' notice? Stupid."
Fuckin' friendly as ever!
