Well, isn't this a mighty fine school. It's very big, and I've already seen a lot of impressive things. Plus, I been working on my magic! With the whole, light magic and making a lasso. It's been fun!
°During the winter time, Verity's hair condenses into a cloud so that her hair doesn't freeze. She's made entirely of water and usually keeps her form in this normal appearing "plasma" state, but the exposed water hair was a fashion choice (≧▽≦)
°Here we got Sidekick Finnick, aka Heat Missile. He can see heat signatures left by living beings and can track down targets just from that. It helps to keep his own body cold because it interferes with his vision. He works under Pro Hero Super Charger (no design).
°And Jacky gets a new hairstyle for this verse. She's a vigilante, and her quirk is Hellhound. She transforms into a phantom-like wolf, emitting smoke and raw power. Which i had to because she's a werewolf in canon hehehehe. The phantom half of her quirk is slowly taking over-
The path of a hero is not nearly as possible as people make it out to be. "Work hard, get into a good school, chase your dream..." blah blah blah; all part of the American dream. Well they forget to mention how those in power aren't all too interested in fresh competition, and so many dreams are cut short. This harsh reality is one that many have to deal with... but not everyone deals with it.
Behind the scenes, in many a town overlooked by the powers that be, the people take matters into their own hands. Or in this case, their own claws. Many a whisper goes around town, about a beast prowling the streets at night, not knowing whether good or bad. Though paranoia serves to say it's a dangerous villain, as anyone alive to witness it believe it to be phantom in nature. Even small time thugs try to keep out of the streets when the beast is spotted. And it was for this very reason that a small team of students were dispatched to the town to uncover and capture this villain.
And so, the group of four kids arrive at the city accompanied by The Battery Hero: Super Charger, and their sidekick Finnick, aka: Heat Missile. Though he specifically asked the kids to call him Finnick.
The Battery Hero: Super Charger. They can gather energy in their body for an extended period of time, in which they convert the energy to enhance their abilities. Energy can be gathered through any means, though they're a fan of solar energy.
The Tracking Hero: Heat Missile. He can spot the heat signatures of any living beings and track their exact movements. He works best when his own body is cold, as his own body heat can interfere.
Among those students was Verity, aka: H2O. It's a work in progress. She looked over to her classmates, who looked eager as ever to get started in hunting down this bad guy.
H2O; quirk, Aquashift. Using her body made of water, she's able to manipulate each state of matter: liquid, solid, and gas. She can also fuse with bodies of water to control that as well- although currently she can handle up to a swimming pool's worth.
"Now remember," Super Charger said, taking the lead and heading out, "stealth is of the utmost importance here. We want to confirm the sighting of this beast above all else. If the villain knows we're here, we'd have less of a chance at finding them."
"Isn't the people's safety 'above all else'?" The classmate Cirque chirped in. The other kids laughed.
Cirque; quirk: teleportation. They can teleport to any space around them, so long as they are able to fit in it reasonably. They've incorporated gymnastics into their style to be able to comfortably catapult through the air when teleporting.
"Ha ha," Super Charger snarked back. "No but seriously, there haven't been many reports of this beast attacking people. For all we know, it could be just a small town rumor to keep things interesting. We're here to put people at ease."
The other kids seemed to relax, but Finnick pulled back a bit and leaned over to Verity, whispering to her, "I don't think it's a myth."
"You don't say?" Verity whispered back.
"Yeah. A lot of the heat signatures I'm picking up right now are just townsfolk, but I'm picking up something... *not* human," he continued.
"And why aren't you telling Super Charger about it?"
Finnick paused a moment, biting his lip. "Er, well i did before y'all got here, but i think they're trying to keep morale up. But, uh, you seem trustworthy and capable, so i figured you'd want the truth."
Verity was slightly shocked, but also pleased. She was glad that was his first impression of her. "Oh, well thank you! I really appreciate it!"
One of Verity's other classmates- by the name of Smoky- glanced back and smirked at the two. "Oh? Getting aquatinted with the intern now are we?" He laughed.
Smoky; quirk: Grizzly. A mutant type quirk, they can bulk up to the size of a full grown bear, and have the abilities of one. Their claws are instead made of steel, which they use often to ignite items.
"What? Oh, no no no no," Finnick furiously shook his head. "I'm just a fan of heroes and all..."
Meanwhile, Verity wasn't flustered one bit. Instead, she picked up the pace and smacked his head on her way past. "Focus up Smoky. You should worry about this mission instead of dumb stuff like that."
Finnick and Smoky watched her walk up to Super Charger to gather more info, then Smoky clicked his tongue. "Why's she gotta be so cold," He said, looking over to Finnick expectantly to see if he got the joke. "Get it?"
Finnick did not get it.
"Cold? Her quirk involves ice? You know what, nevermind," He shrugged it off.
A few hours pass, and their team had split into pairs to set up different stake out locations, radios at the ready. Verity ended up getting paired with Finnick as the hunting team. She was relieved, because this meant she could get a chance to take down the villain before even needing her classmates. Even a small chance to make her debut was a chance she was willing to take. So, the two snuck between buildings, Finnick keeping low to the ground to check for signs and inputting into a device every now and then. Verity soon grew curious to ask.
"So, what is that?" She knelt down next to him, pointing at his device as he examined an abandoned store.
"Oh this? Just some fancy piece of tech to relay my calculations back to Super Charger. Typically, i myself can come to my own conclusions about where our target is, but this thing supposedly does it faster. Something about math and pattern recognition."
Verity pumped her fist. Yes! This meant they could track the villain even sooner. Perfect for them two. As they moved on, she asked another question. "So what happens when we find it? Because I'm pretty sure we could just capture it ourselves before the others even get here."
Finnick winced. "Um, we? No no, you over estimate me. We wait for the team; I'm no fighter."
And there goes her spirits. Verity deflated a little inside, but immediately shook it off. Back to her original plan of doing it solo. It would have been smarter to have his help, but oh well. It's nothing she can't handle-
Suddenly Finnick stopped, cutting off her track of mind. He motioned her to keep quiet and the two ducked behind a bush, with Finnick furiously typing away their coordinates. When Verity dared to peek the corner, her vision was obscured by a dense fog that quickly filled the street. Any ideas of trying to do things solo were now full of doubt, as now a pair of red eyes emerged from the fog, and then, a wolf figure. Verity silently ducked back then readied up her arms, her solid form turning to water and then freezing them into two icicles. The two got confirmation over the radio that they'd be there shortly and to engage the target, so Verity nodded and dashed out, arms ready to strike.
The wolf took notice of her and immediately swung it's tail at her, sending a flurry of fog her way as well. She let the tail phase right through her watery body, but failed to freeze it in place. Charging forward again, Verity swiped at it, clashing several times with it's arms. The wolf reached out to bite hers, breaking off some ice, but she was quick to melt and reform that arm, this time punching at it.
The wolf staggered back, growling at Verity and creating more fog to blur her vision. All she could see now was it's red eyes, until she heard Finnick's voice from behind her.
"Duck!"
Verity melted immediately, and just in time for the wolf to pounce right through her. Slowly, she rebuilt her face to see where it landed, then instantaneously shot up as an icicle, stabbing at the wolf's side.
"Ow, fuck!" The wolf screamed, pausing Verity in her tracks. It was a girl's scream.
Immediately, the fog began to retreat into the wolf, but the beast itself was no longer there. Once all was clear, all that stood was a red headed girl, no younger than Verity. And she was an all too familiar face. The girl winced, clutching at her side where there was now a big bloody wound, and Verity quickly reconstructed herself to finally be able to talk. "...Jacky?"
Jacky fell to her knees, clutching at the wound in her side. She vaguely glanced up at the icy figure in front of her, until it turned back into her original figure. "Verity...?" She huffed, not sure she was seeing things right.
Finnick now jumped out from his spot, rushing to tend to Jacky's wound. "H2O what were you thinking?!" He snapped, bringing her to attention. "As a student you are strictly forbidden to use your quirk to harm! How many times have we repeatedly told you kids!"
Verity's jaw dropped, now realizing what she had done. "Oh my god, Jacky, I'm so sorry-"
"Don't waste your time apologizing!" Finnick yelled. "Radio Super Charger right now and tell them to bring paramedics!"
Verity's heart dropped. She fumbled with the radio and did as she was told, but her mind was in shock. In the spur of the moment, Verity knew becoming an icicle was her quickest chance of being able to reform, but she didn't notice where she was piercing into. She didn't process her actions all the way through. And now... now she had hurt an old friend of hers...
"Oh, wait!" Verity sprung forward. "I can stop the bleeding," she said, bring out some spare water from her pack. Finnick glared at her, but allowed her to be able to freeze a patch over the injury. Jacky herself wined in reaction to the cold. "I am so sorry girl," she muttered. And just in time, the rest of the team arrived, along with the paramedics.
———
Days later, Verity and the hero escort were severally reprimanded for what went down. And while they did the best they could to sort everything out, Verity accepted that she would have to be suspended for a week. She was swimming in guilt.
On the bright side, Jacky was okay and stabilized, and this day she was in a very testy mood. She requested that only Verity came to visit her, making Ver shiver down her spine as she headed to the room. They kept a guard posted at the door, but once it closed, the two girls were purely alone.
Verity kept her head down at first, ashamed as the night's events relayed in her mind. Why did she do what she did? She should've waited, and trapped her like originally planned. Instead, everything went wrong. What was she supposed to say to her?
Meanwhile, Jacky just stared at her from her bed, testing to see her reaction, when she suddenly burst out laughing. This threw Verity completely off her game. "You god damn monster! I didn't know you had this kind of side to you Verity. Man! Has it been a long time or what!"
"Wh-what?!" Verity stuttered. "I'm sorry?"
"You better damn well be!" She laughed, poking at her side. "It wasn't even a clean puncture through. And you held back. Aren't you cool or what."
Verity stood there silently, confused. Was... Jacky happy to have been injured?
Jacky sighed, leaning back in her bed as she reminisced. "I told ya. You needed to get some high stakes fighting into your system or you were going to screw up somewhere. And look where we are now-"
"Do you think this is funny?" Verity finally spoke, approaching her bed. "We finally meet back up after years, and not only did i hurt you really badly, but i thought you were a villain. And so does everyone else in this town apparently! You think any of this is something to laugh about?!"
Jacky scoffed. "Well if you follow the law, sure i sound like a villain-"
"And I am following the law!" Verity retaliated, before awkwardly adding, "well, trying to-"
"Hey, just remember you attacked me first!" Jacky growled. The hospital door opened, drawing both girls attention, and the guard poked their head in. Jacky sighed, waving them off. "We're good in here." They closed it back again.
"Look, I'm sorry," Verity frowned. "I really am. I'm devastated that i acted stupid on my very first mission and ended up hurting you. But what were you doing? Because, as far as we knew, there was supposed to be a dangerous villain on the loose, driving people confined to their homes at night, terrified for their lives! How come you were out and about using your quirk all willy nilly?"
Jacky scowled, turning away from her friend. "You're one to talk about using their quirk willy nilly..." She grumbled under her breath.
"What was that?" Verity got closer. She was starting to get really pissed about how this interaction was going.
"I said wouldn't you like to know! Miss law abiding citizen! Sorry we can't all get licensing to protect our damn home!" Jacky snarked back at her. "Which i was doing! Until you guys showed up!"
Things went quiet as Verity clasped her mouth shut. She looked over to the window, then over at Jacky, then out the window, and back at Jacky. "Hold on..." She said, barely above a whisper, "are you... you mean to tell me..." Dread filled her stomach yet again. "You were protecting...?"
Just then, there was a knock at the door and in came a police officer, Super Charger, and Finnick. The girls looked over, slightly worried now.
"Sorry to interrupt ladies," the police officer said, "but we need to collect miss Bolívar's statement. If you will..." He then motioned for Verity to join the heroes, and she slowly nodded. Her feet felt stuck to the floor, not wanting to leave Jacky, but soon the three were out the door, with Super Charger and Finnick looking at her, concerned...
°"People who share the Consul personality type are, for lack of a better word, popular – which makes sense, given that it is also a very common personality type, making up twelve percent of the population. In high school, Consuls are the cheerleaders and the quarterbacks, setting the tone, taking the spotlight and leading their teams forward to victory and fame. Later in life, Consuls continue to enjoy supporting their friends and loved ones, organizing social gatherings and doing their best to make sure everyone is happy.
°ESFJ! That's Finnick alright! Fits him absolutely perfectly
