I have finished reading The Lumatere Chronicles -- and I just had to draw these chars headshots for future refs (Part 1)
Finnikin of The Rock by Melina Marchetta - 5*
Jeeeeeez - first book of the year and I rate it 5*? I'm becoming soft. No really, the Lumatere Chronicles is everything TOG should have been - I'm only one book in but I can't find a fault in the definitive world building, the beautiful characters and the intricate plot. Thank you Marchetta!
if balthazar lived:
see little passages like this make me wish we had gotten more from the topher/finnikin relationship during their exile years. like i understand plotwise there was no good place to fit it in but they obviously had to have such a close bond and i'm intrigued to know more about it
yes froi, kick the shit out of him both physically and emotionally 👏
thinking about how froi and finnikin have like, reverse likeability throughout the series
bc froi starts off exTREMELY unlikeable, but that's the point—we need to see his base side in order to experience his growth, which then makes for wonderful character development. whereas finnikin starts off likeable (mostly in the sense that he's our main character and we have no other options), but as we get to know other characters and see more of him, he ends up not that favorable
for being a total idiot about women, Finnikin is actually pretty smooth ngl
