I’d bought a digital copy of “Creep Academy” from My Teenage Stride years ago on eMusic and pretty much forgot about them.  Then on the front page of Bandcamp today, “Ears Like Golden Bats” was featured.  The description stated,  “ A classic of NYC indiepop comes to Bandcamp, with hooks galore and sparkling guitars that recall The Chills and The Bats.”  

This is a CD release available from Discogs, Amazon and the like.  It really does recall the early New Zealand sound (not so much “Creep Academy”).  Any fans of Pale Lights, Finnmark! or Cloudberry Records might want to click through and listen to everything My Teenage Stride (Jedediah Smith...mountain man?) has to offer.

I was kind of excited when I saw the name of this band. I thought it was going to be Scandanavian pop in the vein of Finnmark!. (who oddly aren't from Finland, but I always listen as if they were). No, this is a Los Angeles based duo who make fuzzy pop reminiscent of Tony Molina and Mo Troper.

"How to Mute Crows" is their debut EP and it looks to be self released.

The Rio Olympics open tonight, and France’s Beko Records have released a compilation to mark the event.  Most of the 12 bands have released previous material via Beko.  I would say this released tends to a more electronic/pop approach, but the pure pop that’s here is fantastic.  Finnmark! (”Cycling”) is the highlight for me, but I’m also digging Ski Saigon and their Indochina themed “Mekong Olympics”.  Photon, Djokovic, and Drug Train are other highlights.

There’s a lot here and all of it is Olympic themed.

...I saw you in the city, and I liked your style...

Had this on my mind for days. After promising singles and EPs this is the band's first full-length album. I agree with Austin Town Hall comparing them to Cats on Fire, while they also remind me of Butcher Boy and Northern Portrait (not only because of "A Quiet Night..."!). In short: it's the kind of indiepop that's absolutely perfect for sunny Sunday afternoons like today!
