It came to me in a dream while I was mentally plotting a long fic in which they interact for one (1) scene (they have never met in canon, almost certainly never will, and the only connection they have is Shido gimped some research Maruki was doing from such a distance that he probably didn't even realize Maruki existed).
This was in part owing to a conversation with a friend where we joke-pondered the idea of Shido being bisexual (he's a genuine rat bastard who should not be in a relationship with anyone) and I kept that shit to myself for months on end because it was too weird even by joke ship standards but then gave in last April Fool's and brought it up to a completely unrelated Discord server. We have been shitposting about it for two months. I have been writing smut of the ship and holding it for ransom. I'm getting irony-poisoned.

It came to me in a dream, in said dream, Bilbo was trying to propose to Fiona but other things kept getting in the way (like the plot of The Hobbit and also Fiona falling off a pier into a lake). He didn't fall in love with her until he saw her as an ogre, which is king behavior, after having said dream I told offline and online friends, both of whom enabled me by telling me that actually they kinda worked together and here I am, yes I’m serious but no I’m not but yes I am.
