Fire Leaves are actually gathered from the Firethorn plant, which grows exclusively around the Scalding Pool, a collection of geysers, in the Borean Tundra. It is the only useful part of the Firethorn plant, and the only part that can survive long enough to be shipped to a major city for milling. Firethorn is easy to find but rather complicated to gather, as it burns continuously.

This is understandably problematic for those trying to harvest the plant. To extinguish the flames would render the leaves useless, so specially enchanted satchels are often employed. These satchels are generally made from fire-retardant or (ideally) fireproof materials. Its violent, burning behavior has lead it to represent aggression and the likelihood of an attack.

Though Fire Leaf has a particular meaning, it is rarely sent. This is perhaps because by the time someone feels this way about a potential recipient, their actions would have escalated beyond any subtle messages and well into physical violence. For this reason, one is more likely to find fire leaf only in practical settings where scribes mill it for pigments, or in stories when an antagonist is particularly poetic.
