Why I believe Ozai despised Lu Ten and was jealous of Iroh & Zuko!

It is my headcanon that Ozai was jealous of Lu Ten's relationship with his father, Azulon, and brother Iroh.

My headcanon involves the belief that both, Ozai and Lu Ten's mothers died in childbirth.

However, whereas Ozai was neglected and despised over Fire Lady Ilah's death by Iroh and Azulon.

Lu Ten wasn't despised or mistreated by Iroh and Azulon compared to Ozai.

Probably because Azulon cared more about his heir to his first-born son and having his first grandson.

Azulon wasn't as emotionally connected to Iroh's wife as his wife, Ilah. So, he treated Lu Ten as his future heir to the title of Fire Lord.

Also, I believe that Iroh later realized that the neglect, isolation, and emotional abuse his brother suffered during his childhood had emotionally scarred him. He didn't want the same fate for Lu Ten despite his beloved wife dying just like his mother had.

Ozai seeing his father and brother treat his nephew the way he has NEVER been treated during his childhood and youth INFURATIES him massively!

Unfortunately, Ozai takes his fury at this injustice out of Lu Ten, not physically, of course, but mentally and emotionally.

I personally believe that Lu Ten's death was an inside job and indirectly caused by Ozai's scheme to take back his "rightful" place as second in line to the Flaming Throne after Iroh, as he always had been since before Lu Ten was born.

Ozai has the motives and the means to inform the Dai Li of Iroh and Lu Ten locations or other things that can give the Earth Kingdom an edge in killing either Iroh or Lu Ten. However, I believe Ozai targeted Lu Ten rather than Iroh because of his jealousy and resentment. Ozai knows that with Lu Ten's death, Iroh's resolve and will to fight will falter, causing him to lose the battle of Ba Sing Se and, hopefully, their father Azulon's favor, along with the rest of the Fire Nation's favor.

Lu Ten being the Golden Child of the family and Azulon and Iroh's pride and joy despite having the same circumstances that befall him, and Ozai being the Black Sheep of the family; causes him immense loathing and jealousy of his nephew's happiness and relationships with his father and brother.

Seeing Zuko and Ursa having a loving mother-and-son relationship that he had NEVER gotten to experience, like Iroh, Lu Ten, and later Zuko, also causes Ozai emotional distress and furious jealousy.

The important striking difference between Ozai and Zuko's childhood.

Ozai probably had it FAR rougher than Zuko during his childhood. If Ozai's mother Fire Lady Ilah died in childbirth and Azulon despises him for it and Iroh neglects him and joins the military to cope with the loss of their mother. Then that could explain Ozai being a FAR more ruthless, cold, and hateful version of his son Zuko. Zuko at least had his mother Ursa, uncle Iroh, Mai, and Ty Lee to comfort him. Ozai used to treat his children decently well. Zuko and Azula used to have a happy childhood and play with each other! Ozai probably had no one except his cold, hateful, and abusive father, and the Royal Court! Children surround by horrible people in a negative environment tend to not turn out good in their adult years.
